Best and Worst Value for Money Players

Amaze your friends (assuming you have any) and win bar bets (assuming that you are old enough to go into a bar).

Canadian Business has produced a series of charts to determine the most bang for your buck.

Hockey Salaries 2008: The best and worst for the money

Canadian Business Online put the NHL to the test to find the players who offer the best mix of high performance and low cost. These are the best value players. They're not necessarily hockey's most skilled in absolute terms nor are they always the cheapest monetarily but it's the dream team for fans and cash-strapped owners.

And who are the worst value players? Don't worry, we've put that team together as well. Our advice on these players is similar to last year don't take these guys in your pool.
http://list.canadianbusiness.com/rankings/...;d1=d&sc1=2

Best Value
C Ryan Getzlaf
RW Jason Pominville
LW Andrei Kostitsyn
D Duncan Keith
D David Oduya
G Chris Osgood

Worst Value
C Brian Sutherby
RW Colton Orr
LW Brad May
D Rob Blake
D Jack Johnson
G Olaf Kolzig

In terms of points per dollar the best Canucks forward was Alex Burrows ($15,323) at #14. Taylor Pyatt was next ($42, 568) ranked #146 followed by Henrik, Kesler, Isbister and Daniel (all in the 167 to 176 range). Markus Naslund was #306 out of 349 forwards ($109,091)

Here is the 2007 list.

"Since a forward is paid to score points, we've taken salary and divided it by seasonal point total to arrive at a dollar-per-point total. It's that simple."

Colton Orr and Brad May aren't paid to score points.

The methodology for defensemen uses +/- which means the numbers are totally useless in my opinion.

This could be interesting but needs a better value measurement than what they did use.

Try sorting D the by TOI (Time on Ice) that is better indicator in my opinion.

There is a lot of info in the tables you can manipulate.

Yes I did, and since d-men and shutdown forwards aren't paid to score points this is fantasy league info.

Great idea, but needs to be based on more things rather than just points or +/-. Maybe PIM, TOI, or other things that all contribute to a player.
