I made a class system to rank young goalies and im just wondering where you would put some young goalies in this class system. in brackets is an example of where an established nhl goalie would be in the rankings.
Class 1: League Top (Broduer, Luongo) Class 2: franchise goalie (nabakov, kipprusoff) Class 3: Quality goalie (Giguere Lundqvist) Class 4: NHL starter (Miller, Dipietro) Class 5: 2nd tier starter (khabibulin, Roloson) Class 6: 3rd tier Starter (Hedberg, Biron)
Pick a young goalie and rank him according to his potential. So here is an example. so when price is in his prime i think
It's hard to make a call on this because performance in junior or the AHL doesn't always translate to the NHL. I thought he looked really comfortable during preseason and was actually pretty impressive. I'm positive he'll end up being an NHL starter somewhere and could be a really good one. I would say at least Class 3 is very fair especially with someone saying Schneider has franchise potential.
no, i think class 3 is correct, but class 2 is pushing it. What part of Schnieders professional performance has led you to believe he couldnt be a quality starter in the nhl; or is in a lower class than, say, pogge? He just keeps getting better and better, making some people put him in class 2 (i wouldnt even be surprised by this)
Ben Bishop: Class Three, has the ability to become a Class two goaltender, will be interesting to see how his development go in the AHL.
Corey Crawford: Class Three, I think he will have a solid career as a very solid starter taking over as the Hawks number one in 09/10. His mental game is said to be outstanding from the people who coach him.
Brian Elliott: He could top out as a Class Three goalie as soon as 09/10 and he could very well be Ottawas number one by the mid point next season. He is a very technical goalie and has an excellent mental game and the mental aspect is huge for goalies. Depending on development in the next two seasons might have Class two ability.
Daniel Larsson: Was the best goalie in Sweden this past year winning the Honken trophy. Excellent technically and has very good composure in net. Class Three but another awesome season in the SEL winning another Honken followed by a huge year in the AHL, may show Class Two potential.
Maybe if you open up your eyes and take a look at the stats for schnieder vs pogge, where schnieders stats are considerable better as a rookie in the ahl none the less, also when pogge is playing on a better team in the marlies.
have you seen him play? he is no Carey Price or Tuukka Rask.. but he is a solid young goalie with a bright future..
i've seen him play in a couple NHL games... i also frequent the wings board to keep up to date w/ him. he's a prospect of mine in a keeper league.
from what i've read, he is similar to ryan miller... they have also followed similar career paths. he has a chance to play 30 games next season... could potentially outplay osgood down the stretch as well.
rating him as a "tier 4" tender seems about right, no?
