i've seen him play in a couple NHL games... i also frequent the wings board to keep up to date w/ him. he's a prospect of mine in a keeper league.
from what i've read, he is similar to ryan miller... they have also followed similar career paths. he has a chance to play 30 games next season... could potentially outplay osgood down the stretch as well.
rating him as a "tier 4" tender seems about right, no?
I'm usualy not the one that praises wings players/prospects... but Howard is a guy I feel strongly about... I think he can be a very good #1 goalie in the NHL if he keeps up his development.. I think he has the potential to be a "tier 3" goalie... but that may be just me
Daniel Larsson: Was the best goalie in Sweden this past year winning the Honken trophy. Excellent technically and has very good composure in net. Class Three but another awesome season in the SEL winning another Honken followed by a huge year in the AHL, may show Class Two potential.
He actually won goalie of the year in Sweden twice this year (for some reason there are two awards for goalie of the year in the SEL... one of them might be from outside the league though) and also won rookie of the year (but you have to be a Swede to be able to win that... possibly true for the Honken thropy as well).
Honestly I'd have to say Cory Schneider at this point is a 2.5
I wouldn't be suprised if he becomes a top 10 goalie in the NHL but he'll be a top 20 for sure.
I would say during his prime he'll at best be in the top 5-10 range but is a safe bet to at least be in the top 10-15 range.
His numbers in the 2nd half of the season were just UNBELIEVABLE. He played great for the Moose in the playoffs as well and I'd love to see what Schneider can do with a full season under his belt.
The Moose never really had a ton of experience in their lineup this season and they had a great second half thanks to Schneider. Schneider is going to have a solid NHL career and I wouldn't be suprised if he does indeed become a top 5 NHL goalie.
It's unlikely he'll ever be a top 3 goalie but he's got the potential to sneak into a 5-7 slot which is real good.
Pogge is a good prospect and he'll do well in the NHL but there's no doubt he's been a tad over rated ever since he backstopped Team Canada to gold at the WJC.
I don't think he'll ever become a franchise goaltender but he's got the potential to be a solid number 1.
Oh I agree. By overrated I am certainly not saying he cannot be a starter. But many feel Pogge is a cant miss prospect due to the WJC. Since then he hasnt done anything that screams top end goalie.
His rookie AHL year was a bust imo. His second year was better but he isnt even starting for the Marlies in this years playoffs. Year 2 of professional Hockey and cannot surpass a 30 year old career AHLer for the starter job.
In contrast to Schneider whom beat out an AHL all star goalie for the starters job. Also putting up better numbers on a lesser skilled Moose team.
I made a class system to rank young goalies and im just wondering where you would put some young goalies in this class system. in brackets is an example of where an established nhl goalie would be in the rankings.
Class 1: League Top (Broduer, Luongo) Class 2: franchise goalie (nabakov, kipprusoff) Class 3: Quality goalie (Giguere Lundqvist) Class 4: NHL starter (Miller, Dipietro) Class 5: 2nd tier starter (khabibulin, Roloson) Class 6: 3rd tier Starter (Hedberg, Biron)
Pick a young goalie and rank him according to his potential. So here is an example. so when price is in his prime i think
