This thread is simply unbelieveable!! Someone should actually e-mail this to Sillinger himself!

Thanks to the connection of Gordie Howe to Jack Stewart to Tiny Thompson to Mickey MacKay, every Chicago Blackhawk in history can be linked to Mike Sillinger by six degrees!

Outstanding. Now if we can only reduce the Montreal connection to 6 it'll be a clean sweep.

The Montreal clean sweep hinges on one thing. It's down to five degrees in a few places thusly:

Sillinger - Mark Howe - Gordie Howe - Harold Jackson - Wildor Larochelle

Larochelle was on Montreal for the 1925-26 season and played 33 of 36 games. Georges Vezina played the last game of his life in the 1925-26 season, lasting just one period.

If we can figure out if Larochelle played in that game, we can nail down Montreal to six degrees starting in 1910. If not....

EDIT: Records indicate that Larochelle was signed on November 23, 1925. The first game of the season (and Vezina's last) was November 28. I'm inclined to call this a teammate connection, which would take Montreal down to six degrees from Mike Sillinger dating to 1910.

Sillinger played 3 games for the Bridgeport sound tigers this season. Maybe that helps with more current guys?

This stuff with old players is great!

when this thread was only in single digits I began compiling a list of teams within 2 degrees. I think I still have it somewhere, i just need to do a little more editing on it. It goes back quite a few years and spans the globe. I'll post it as soon as i can.

To get back to the original thread title (and sorry if this is mentioned already) but you can prove that no one is more than 2 degrees from Mike Sillenger just by checking if every NHL team has at least one player who's played with Mike Sillinger before.

Otherwise, you can use a rookie from the team that doesn't to get more than two degrees away.

If they played with him then that would make them only one degree away. I guess even teams that don't have someone who played with him can have guys that used to be on other teams with guys who played with him, I think that is what they were doing. Great thread either way.

That's what I'm saying.

Player X has played with Sillinger before, and is currently on team Y. So player X also has played with every player on team Y.

Thus, every player on team Y has two degrees of Mike Sillenger. If you can rinse and repeat for all 30 teams, you have your proof that every NHL hockey player is within two degrees of Mike Sillenger.

I think the only team right now that's not true about is the Kings.

Yes, but not every team has someone who's played with Sillinger.

We went through this in the early goings of the thread...

Last year we were missing Dallas (Fistric, Niskanen, Daley) but now they have Landon Wilson who played with Sillinger in PHX; and Montreal (S Kostitsyn, Price) but now they have Denis who played with Sillinger in CBJ.

Last year, Sillinger's link to LA was Ladislav Nagy, but he bolted to Europe so now there isn't anyone to link him with the LA rookies like Doughty.

All that's really left to do at this point is see if we can link Sillinger to within six degrees of every player in NHL history.

So it's on to the defunct teams....the Amerks and Maroons shouldn't be tough, but some of the early ones might be.

Unfortunately, it looks like I've hit a dead end with the Quebec Bulldogs (1919-20) and Montreal Wanderers (1917-18).

Dave Ritchie actually played for both teams, but I can't seem to get a connection from him to Sillinger that would be six or less....I hate to say that we're stuck here, but it looks like that might be the case.
