#54 Mikhail Grabovski

Frame: 5'11" 179lbs
Shoots: Left
Stats: 23games. 3goals. 6assists. 9pts.
Salary: $700,000
Current cap hit: 0.403
Status: RFA July 1st, 2008

He's a small speedy forward, that has shown he can be one great play maker (at the AHL level). He's been lack luster in his 23 games in the NHL with brief hints of magic. He has the potential to become a better center man, but needs to smart up with the puck.

He hasn't impressed me at all and I'll probably be flamed for saying this, but really I'm not looking at him as a Habs player but as a general hockey player... he's not NHL material.

I'd give him one more year at 700K and see what happens. I think he'll go to the RSL though, he'll get more there.

At the beginning of the year he did not look like NHL material but since he was recalled he looked great out there except for 1 or 2 games. When he actually was on with talented players he looked great and i'm disappointed he hasn't been inserted into the lineup vs. Philly as he would burn their D with his speed.

Saying he is not NHL material just doesn't make sense as the guy completely dominated the AHL before being recalled and even though he has got minimal minutes and hasn't played that much with talented players he has shown he can play in the NHL.

If we let him go we'll regret it. He's better than Zhogin.

Especially considering our lack of offensive centers in the system. Him and Sergei had some nice chemistry then he has one bad game and hasn't played a game since.

Grabo has Maxwell and White coming up his rear end.
That's how much time Grabo has to make his bones

Maybe the organization will offer him 700k for another year, but I doubt he'll stick around willingly.

It's a shame we're probably going to lose another one of our best offensive prospects without giving him a real chance to shine.

He was playing very good after being recalled at the trade deadline, had a rough game on a night that the entire team flat out sucked, and hasn't seen action since.

I don't think Grabovski is as good as Perezhogin, but he's a good player with some upside who never got much of an opportunity. Instead we get Dandenault.

He will probably sign a 1.5-2 million per-year deal with a Russian team over the summer.

Even though he's 24, he remains one of our best offensive prospects. As far as I know, prospects dont own the league as soon as they get into the NHL (unless you're named Backstrom, Kane, Muller, etc..).

When he got recalled the 2nd time, i think he was much stronger on his skates and was harder to push around. He deserves to get a real chance (that means more than 10 games).

Sign him!

I had to vote for the 1 year, but I'd give him a three year one way contract.

I'd like to see what he could do with a real honest shot, but I have a feeling the Habs won't give him that.

it took andrei kostitsyn four years to become the player he has become. Grabos been around for almost 2 years now and hes shown lots of flashes of being able to be an impact player like A.Kost. I saw sign him, overpay him even, i'm a big fan of his speed and his potential. Sign him for 2 years and lets see what he can do!

I've voted two years but I'm pretty sure he wants to sign for one or maybe he doesn't want at all.

Uhh...
4 years? He's only 22. It took him less then a year to get to the point he's at.

I say send him back to Germany. We don't need anymore small forwards.

Huh?
You completely muffed your statement, and my 1st sentence was about A.K. The second sentence was directed towards Grabo.

He definitely deserved that call up from the AHL, the reason why Gainey is paying him this much is that he does not pull another Perezhogin move. He had his chance at the beginning of this season and he will earn another chance next season.

I'd happily sign him for two years at 800,000 on a one-way. If he goes to Russia you suspend him for not showing up, everybody lets it go.

I see Grabo as a high-risk, high-reward prospect and I definitely see the potential for him to make it as a #2 offensive center on a deep team. But I also see him having a more likely probability of not sticking around long enough to get there, or not turning out to have that much success if he does. His upside is definitely NHL to me, but he's got work to do to improve and I can't help but think it's still long odds of him finding the right fit in this league.
