Awesome and congrats to him! He's a great player and a favourite of mine for the 2009 draft.

Considering Tavares' playoff fade, Schenn may have gone ahead for many scouts right now. JT will have to bring it much stronger next year if he wants to crack the top two.

C'mon Leafs, tank away!

You can't let a poor tournament/series/playoffs hurt the ranking of a player. Tavares is still a premier prospect and is certainly 1 or 2 right now still.

very very doubtful that Schenn has moved ahead on even a single scout's draft list.

And with the 3rd over all pick in 09 the La Kings are happy to select Brandon Schenn.

He will be happy to play with his older brother Luke in the Kings organization for years to come.

You're advocating for Schenn with a Filatov avatar...I'm confused?

Yea, im gonna have to go with a big fat no on that one.

Until 2009 proves to provide the verygood/star players that 2003 has it should not be talked about like that.

Fleury, Staal, Horton, Zherdev, Vanek, Michalek, Phaneuf, Kostitsyn, Coburn, Carter, Brown, Seabrook, Parise, Getzlaf, Burns, Richards, Perry, Bergeron, Weber, Osullivan.

That's a list of the players who are already considered verygood/star

Suter, Nilsson, Bernier, Fehr, Kesler, Eaves
All players who have a chance to join the class with the others.

That's 17 Very Good to Star players in the 1st round. Yea I think I wont hold my breath for 09 to be a better draft.

A lot of kings fans seem to have the impression they will be able to trade up for a 2nd early first round pick due to having several later picks and a late 1st as well.

The Kings have 2 first round picks, 3 second round picks, 3 third and 3 fourth round picks this year.

Our 2nd first is from Dallas so will be in the 20's and then our first second will be the 31st pick of the draft to work with in addition to the rest.

We also are stocked full of solid NHL caliber young talented forward prospects, some who have played very well during short stints with us this past season and some who are still considered excellent up and coming prospects.

We also have a couple of talented established players that could be had as part of a deal (including a top six proven scoring/pp specialist who is 26yo).

We could move up I would think if the right deal came along but then, so could several teams.

Oh, if we did I don't think that we would pick Filatov, the ability to pick up two exceptional young D would be too hard to pass up for us, Filatov should be great but considering our needs I would rather see us pick a second great young d.

I mean honestly it's the perfect storm. Every nation is sending a premier prospect:
Canada
-Eastern: Olivier Bellevance-Roy G
-Central: John Tavares C
-Western: Brayden Schenn C
Czech Republic: Tomas Vincour C
Finland: Toni Rajala LW
Russia: Andrei Kuchin C
Slovakia: Richard Panik RW
Sweden: Victor Hedman D
United States: Jordan Schroeder C

Top 30 looks absolutely amazing. I'd say when it's all said and done 20 of those top 30 could have been taken top 15 in any other draft.

Well I chose one...

If we were talking about premier stars it would look like this

Canada
-Eastern: Olivier Bellevance-Roy, Jordan Caron, Steven Anthony
-Central: John Tavares, Matt Duchene, Ryan Ellis
-Western: Brayden Schenn, Jared Cowen
Czech Republic: Tomas Vincour
Finland: Toni Rajala, Erik Haula
Russia: Andrei Kuchin
Slovakia: Richard Panik
Sweden: Victor Hedman, Magnus Svensson-Paajarvi, Anton Myllari, Anton Lander
United States: Jordan Schroeder, some other guy I can't remember
