Granted, so did the other best player on the team (MacLean). And they were playing a great team in Belleville.

Did you watch him play? Aside from the World Juniors, which he played very well in, I didn't notice anything different over last year in his league play. We already beat this to death in another topic a few months ago, but from what I've seen him commitment to improved two-way play is either bull or he really hasn't improved much. One game in Owen Sound he was checked hard by a very very weak Attack defense and just disappeared the whole game. He was often the last guy back and never showed any kind of intensity. A player like him should not only eat up that defense, but if he was improving, should show a little more effort on the backcheck, which he didn't. Maybe I'm missing something, but this seems like a rumour on the "Jared is the best staal" proportions

Although, to answer the OP, the Leafs or maybe I don't need that smiley...

He's very over rated.

He was just majorly hyped because of the Gretzky record breaking and the exceptional player status but it's debatable whether he's even the best player on his team at the moment.

He had the highest PPG percentage in the OHL this year.

It means hes an elite player. Forsberg was one of the best players in the NHL when he was playing this season. And no ones gonna say Forsberg is overrated, hes just old and busted up. Tavares isnt though.

I kind of hope Sundin retires so we have a shot at 1 of the big 2.

If Forsberg had the best PPG over the entire season then yes, it would mean something.

The Leafs have made it no secret that they want Tavares. Given the state of that franchise, it wouldn't surprise me if they tank it next season in order to try and get #1 in the draft lottery. I know I'm sounding a little blunt but it's a distinct possibility.

Forsberg for Hart? 9 games worth of Hart?

wait what? are you saying Belleville is disappearing? Might not help that the OHL Goalie of the year, there best player and one of the best defenseman on the team are hurt. Add in that they're playing the #1 team in Canada.

Please tell me that this is not what you meant.

He is the best. And I dont think MacLean is all that close. You have to watch him alot to understand.

Pretty much have to wait and see what happens this summer before you can predict who's going to tank.

PHX was pretty much a shoe-in for the #1 pick going into last season, and look what happened there.

Agreed. There is nobody on Oshawa who is close to Tavares. There might be a handful of players in the whole OHL who are close, however. Even then, I don't think there's anybody who is clearly or undebateably better. And those players are older than he is too. Without being quite as familiar with the Q or WHL, I think I'd feel pretty safe in extending that line of reasoning across the entire CHL too.

I think the isles will tank pretty hard and so will the leafs.
1 New York Islanders - Taveres
2 Carolina Hurricanes - Hedman
3 Toronto Maple Leafs - B. Schenn

Finnerican can you please give us a comprehensive scouting report on John Tavares. You talk about the kid like your an expert, but you've admitted to only seeing him live twice. So please do tell. There are several posters in this thread who heavily contradict your opinion, and all of us see Tavares a lot more than you do, so please do tell.

I mean for example I like Hedman, I saw a few concerns with his game in a couple of the games I've seen him in, but I'm not going to put my opinion on the line bashing guys I haven't seen play. I know that he is an excellent prospect, but I'm not going to speculate anything either way as that is how you lose any credibility extremely quickly.

Once you trade for Gerber or Emery, you will be miles ahead in that department.
