How about this possibility: Jagr will sign a 4 year 26 million dollar contract with BOTH the Rangers and Omsk. Does anyone know if there are specific rules prohibiting this? Perhaps the league and NHLPA can make a ruling to allow it?
The contract could state that Jagr will play at least the next year in NY, and at least the last year in Omsk. Perhaps a player option for the middle two, or scoring thresholds or something? The team for which he plays will obviously pay the salary that year.
Benefit for Jagr - guaranteed salary even if injured or production diminishes. On Vs. someone said he is looking for a 4 year deal, and why wouldn’t he want one?
Benefit for NY, they get him for a little less than they'd otherwise spend because it is a year longer which he wants. And the Rangers probably don't want him for four years.
Benefit for Omsk that they definitely get him for a year, and the fans can get excited even now about it.
