Hossa vs Grabovski, Lapierre

Hossa + Hedberg vs Graboski + Lapierre + 1st round pick. Fair ? I think it's a great deal for Habs.

According to JdM and Yvon Pedneault, the trade was almost completed. Hossa even said that he expected to be traded to Habs.

Selon JdM, entente de principe est faite.

So bad, so sad. I think Habs with Hossa will definitely beat Flyers. And Habs + Hossa > Penguins - Hossa.

That couldn't have been the deal. Montreal would have made that trade. I think that's the deal that Gainey countered with at the end.

Remember the press conference, where Gainey said that Atlanta asked for 4 assets, and Gainey responded with one fewer, when he was denied.

I think they had agreed on that deal, then Waddel asked Gainey to add another asset. He refused but Pittsburg agreed so the trade was made.

I also believe Gainey traded Huet thinking he'd have Hedberg as a backup.

Impossible!

Gainey said himself that they were four (I think) players involved and that 3 of them were in the original roster and one was in the minor.

But...I think that Grabo, Lapierre and a 1st was involved.

I think what happened is this:

This offer (or something very much like it) was agreed to in principle by both parties.

(Possibly at this point, Gainey trades Huet, thinking that he is going to get Hedberg back with 90% certainty. Or maybe he'd already decided.)

Then Atlanta drags its feet and do not follow through with the agreed-upon trade, continuing to entertain offers. The Habs are still frontrunners however.

The Penguins swoop in at the last minute and make the Armstrong/Christensen/Esposito/1st offer for Hossa and Dupuis.

Atlanta decides that this is a better deal than the Habs', and turns around and asks Gainey to improve their offer -- possibly asking for Chris Higgins at that point. Hence asking for three roster players plus a draft pick.

Gainey says "no way". Or makes some counter-offer.

Hossa is a Penguin.

You really knew that we give Grabovski and Lapierre away and we may get Hedberg ? For me, this is my first time that I know this.

I think he meant the trade, but I agree.

Besides, it's the offseason. ANY thread that has something to do with hockey is better than nothing.

This is what we knew days after the trade about Gaineys offer that was out there...

http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=485462

It seems like this is a more likely scenario then the one we read today.

Atlanta wanted foutr assets and three were on the roster. But Bob only offered three assets. I think that if Gainey would have offered four assets, Hossa would be in Montreal.

Well it all boils down to losing 4 players for a guy who was going to be a UFA anyways so i'm happy we didnt get him.
