How much $ will Hossa get!

Some teams may have to overpay to get him. I'm thinking he'll get somewhere in the range of $7,200,000-$8,750,000 a year. Man, these salaries are getting out of control. Didn't we here that before??

I don't think so.

That is too much, in my opinion he us worth between $5,500,000 and $7,000,000.

I don't think it is that absurd to pay Hossa that kind of money. Look at the points, look what he brings to a team and you have yourself a VERY valuable player. And he is born in 1979. His peak just started one should assume.

I would give him $35,000,000 for 5 seasons ($7,000,000 per season).

Between 8-9 Million per season, unless he takes a discount to play for a "contender".

If thats the case, I think several teams will make him an offer.

Guys, do you really think that he will get and deserves Crosby/Ovechkin money?

He is by far the best free agent this year and he is still reasonably young.... If Gomez and Drury got over 7 million a year long term last year than Hossa can easily get 9 million a year long term with the cap going up again.

its not necessarilly what he deserves its the fact that he is a valuable commodity of which there is a low supply and high demand... therefore price goes up... The highest bidder is likely to get him so he'll get more than he deserves.

He's already making $7,000,000 this year. I honestly don't think Marian Hossa + Rich Winters will accept anything less...

He WILL get Crosby/ Ovechkin money, but NO he does not deserve it. Gomez got $7 mill a year last year and Hossa has had better numbers over his career so I think Hossa will go for at least $8-8.5 mill a year.

Both Gomez and Drury have cap numbers above seven millions, Hossa will get at least eight with a first year of ten. He's alone on the market this summer, things could get ugly fast.

Given his age... yes.

When Ovechkin or Crosby reach his age they will rake in the league maximum. Currently 10 mill per season, will be higher then of course. 7-8 mill is very competative for Hossa. Briere got close to that, and Hossa is better.

You are absolutely right!! With the cap going up, I can't see his agent accepting anything less than $7,800,000. I think it will be just over $8,000,000 a year.
If Gainey makes this offering, We can say bye-bye to Kovalev at next seasons end. It will be interesting to see what Gainey does with Koivu. UFA after next season. He's making $4,750,000 now.

A big difference between what a player deserves and what a player will get

I think he's getting 8-8.5 with the cap going up

He will get too much due to the lack of really good UFA.

Hossa is not coming to Montreal, GoHabsGo247(e5).

I'd rather see Andrei Kostitsyn moved to the right wing and let him control the play more often rather then always having to pass to Kovalev. He is our impact player from within.

I'm not willing to accept Gainey giving one player a contract like that, i'd rather have 2 players like Saku & Alex then 1 Hossa.

Gainey has the war chest to afford BOTH Hossa and a good center.
Ryder,Huet,Smokes= Hosssa
ANd Gainey still has some left over to get a center. Since no top center is ufa this year a good 2nd tier Big center will be the target.
OPPS lets not forget the swed guy Brunns something.

Exactly...... he's the best UFA available and that alone will drive his price up.

Is Gainey willing to give it to him, though?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say he'll average $8.4M over 6 years. I think teams will be hard-pressed to make Hossa the highest-paid player in the league.

I hope not.... Hossa is not the answer; i thought otherwise at the deadline though....

I'd rather see a trade for a power forward.
