What UFA do you want the most?

What UFA do you want the most besides anyone on the Rangers?

Other noteables I forgot to add are Ryan Malone, John-Michael Liles, Vaclav Prospal and Michael Ryder.

He's only 29, and if we lose Jagr he will fit nicely on the first line with Brandon Dubinsky... Great hands and awesome vision... It doesn't hurt that he's Swedish as well (played with Henrik in Frolunda)...

None if possible.

-Too much $$$ for Hossa.
-Huselius is way way too streaky.
-Sundin and Naslund would never come here in my opinion.
-Demitra I like but I can't see him fitting in at all.
-Redden is not what were looking for and I think that if were gonna put that kind of money into a d-man -we should wait for somebody else.
-I love Laraque but we have Orr.
-Rolston is a getting up there age wise and I think we'll have to overpay to bring him in and were already overloaded with centermen. (Dubinsky, Gomez, Drury, Betts and possibly Anisimov)
-Gelinas is way too old.
-Cambell will ask for way to much money and doens't bring the defense I'd want in our #1.
-But I have always been a big Jason Smith fan however.

I'm definitely failing to see how Ryder is in any way better than Huselius. But thats just me.

In a perfect world, I think Cambell solves a lot of problems, but I don't think he's going to be worth the money he's going to get.

Since I don't think this team is going to dish out another longterm, big money contract, bringin in an Orpik makes the most sense. He doesn't bring the puck skills you'd like to add on the blueline, but he goes a long way towards fixing the defense corps' other problem: toughness.

The ONLY one of those players that I'd like on the team next year (considering salary) is Jason Smith

Let's compare.

Huselius will be 30 in Novermber. Ryder just turned 28 in March. Ryder is nearly 2 years younger.

Huselius scored 73 goals through his first 4 years. Ryder 85 through his first 3.

And in his first 4 years, he did have a down year, much like Ryder, except his was worse. 10 goals in 76 games. To Ryder's 14 in 70.

However, it took Huselius 5 years to reach 30 goals. Whereas it only took Ryder 2.

Huselius never repeated a 30 goal season.

Ryder has two. And only missed another one by 5.

Ryder is bigger, younger, and remains to be seen who will be cheaper. Although, comparing their contract years, Huselius may be more expensive.

I don't see how Ryder is not a better option.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/player...?playerId=1770

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/player...?playerId=1173

It really is amazing how the ONLY THING that people look at is how Ryder had a down year in his contract season. Like that never happened in sports before to players who are highly skilled.

Also, there are players who play over their heads in contract years, and are no where near that good in the long haul and completely bust after the big contract is signed.

Ryder is the case where, he is BETTER then the year he had. And he WILL be a SOLID pickup for who ever is smart enough to sign him.

Rolston and Orpik, assuming Jagr returns (Orpik even if he doesn't).

None of the UFA forwards are the type of legit first line scorer we need. Maybe Rolston or Hossa but I didn't choose either. Went Campbell bc I think he would help the power play.

Huselius?
montador??? i havent seen anyone show interest in him but i think he could offer a good dman for a not so high price
maybe hainsey or vandermeer if not montador
i dont think we should go after a big name big price
another foward option for lower lines is pandolfo

Wait for next year and get Gaborik when hes a UFA. Save money this year for deadline/mid season deals. Thats one thing that screwed the Rangers this year, no flexibility at all to make trades to fill holes.

I would consider picking up Hossa if the money was right and if Jagr decided to not come back. I think potentially he would be a good fit on a line with Gomez, however, the problem is that potentially Holik was a good addition, as was Lindros and Messier the 2nd time if you get where I'm going. Gomez and Drury made sense to pick up, I think, in the grand scheme of things but picking up Hossa just because theoretically be "that" scorer we need doesn't mean its a good idea. We'd be drifting dangerous close back to that era where we were just throwing money at people without rhyme or reason.

With that said though, if Jagr doesn't come back I don't think it'd be the worst thing in the world, but it just makes me nervous.

I'd throw Campbell into that same category if we can't get Rozi back by the way. Not that they're similar but throwing money at the biggest name player, as we all know, doesn't necessarily always equal success.

I'm with most around here when I say that none would probably be in all honesty a good choice.

NO NO NO to Wade Redden.. For some reason I see Sather trying to sign him. I've seen his play deteriorate since Chara left. I'm from Ottawa so I get to see him play alot.. JUST SAY NO to Redden.
