Interesting ideas---

Also he suggests in todays paper that the oilers should go for Gonchar

With then a less month till the deadline--- I am surprised why more teams have not either sold the farm or bought the farm with their plans

The chance of the Oilers obtaining Gonchar 0.0000000000000000000001

Bank on it.

Why is that article reporting that Sullivan is an UFA? I'm almost certain he is a RFA.

You are correct Lord Darth. He'll be 30 years old July 6th. Perhaps the writer meant to say that he didn't think the Blackhawks will qualify Sullivan at $3 mil, making him a UFA?

"Chicago -- We've heard about Zhamnov but Steve Sullivan is an unrestricted free agent and there's no way they're re-signing him at $3 million. "

Replace the "and" with "as" at it makes sense, sort of....

With Gonchar qualifying for arbitration this summer, and already making just a hair under $4 million/yr, I can't see the Oilers having the funds.

I dont think Gonchar is an impossibility. Look at how much of Jagrs contract was picked up by Washington, what was it, almost half? Im sure they would be willing to restructure the terms of the contract the same way they did for Jagr. It probably wont happen, but I dont think it is as impossible as you'd think. Relinquising Salo, Smith, Oates and Laraques contracts from the payroll would save Edmonton an excess of 10 million dollars, and thats excluding the much talked about Ryan Smyth, which would puash our savings to nearly 15 million. If we get a few young affordable players and a few draft picks for our assets, we should be in good shape to upgrade our Defense.IMO.

With those odds, I'll bet you half a cent they get him.

I guess the Edmonton Journal doesn't want to comment on the success of the Flames by including them anywhere in that article. That's ok though, best not to stir up trouble when the home team is doing so poorly themselves.

On face value, really they have a 1/29 shot of getting him, if he's traded...
