Don't know what to think of this. I wonder who they will look to bring in.

As with Pat Quinn, the coaching was never the problem. Owner-puppet management was. This is silly.

You beat me to it..

It's not all the surprising, but I was expecting the new GM to make the call not Fletcher. Seeing as how usually the GM likes to bring in his own people.

Expected Maurice to be fired, but figured the new GM would do it and name his replacement.

They do stuff weird in TO.

Hey, as long as the Make-Believes are not winning, they can do whatever they want in TO.

I liked Maurice as a coach until he blamed AK-46 for injuring McCabe.

Another dumb move by Toronto management and I can't wait for them to sign Tie Domi to be their new head coach.

That ticked me off too, that was just a basic hockey play gone wrong for McCabe.. It happens.

I don't think they will have a new GM in place for training camp to be honest.

I'm surprise that this wasn't done right after the end of their season. I'm wondering who is going to replace him.

You think they are going to keep Fletcher until Burke is available next summer? I am beginning to think this is the route they are hoping to take.

this is the best news for Maurice. He gets his money and does NOT have to go down with the sinking ship.

The Leafs have to rebuild and there is next to nothing in the prospect pool. It's going to take YEARS to rebuild.

Sure they will ice a team but thats about it. They have to get past balls 1 through 7 just to finally get behind the 8 ball.

The way the Leafs board is going, most are convinced that Brunnstrom is going there....so there's their jumping point....
Can you imagine the insanity of it all if the Habs just had a season that the leafs went through? The media, the fans all would be Discordia.
Who are the assisstants these days? Any idea if they're going to promote from within or go outside of the organization?

I couldn't stand Maurice, just seemed like such a bitter, angry, whinny c*#!
Calling AK dirty, intentionally trying to injure McCabe and insinuating the team was coached to play like that was really the last straw. He's not a bad coach, I just got pretty sick of hearing interviews from the guy.

I pity the guy who takes over the job, something about the media and perpetual losing in TO really can't be a healthy thing.

No I just think they are disfunctional and not be able to come to a consensus on who to hire given that they only have 6 months betweent the firing of JFJ and the start of next training camp.

You think if Brunnstrom does become a leaf he might have unrealistic expectations placed on him by fans and media considering they are in need of a saviour more than any other organization. For the good of this guy's career he might want to think twice about heading to that city.

Fair enough. I'll add a +1 to that.

Didn't Jim Rutherford fire Maurice back in Carolina? Maybe he insisted that he was out of the picture before he came on board? Who knows?

why wouldnt he just do that himself when he came on board tho?
wanted to not have a "Arthur Dent, you've killed me x times" moment? (i forget the exact quote but yeah)

Good point. Or it doesn't matter who the new GM is because the Board will be the one making all of the decisions anyway. So they can hire and fire whoever they want. Their next GM will just be another puppet anyway.

Maybe the worst coach in the history of the NHL.

Check his career coaching record... 10 years, missed playoffs 7 times (or something like that).

Look at the team he has had the last two years, even Scotty Bowman would have trouble getting those plugs into the playoffs.

He looked dumb when he claimed that they were contenders for the cup this year. Some claim it was a form of motivation - personally I think it was just stupid.
