Niko to IR; McCormick back up

http://www.coloradoavalanche.com/new...ils.asp?ID=127

The RMN reported that Nikolishin returned to the lineup last night, but they were obviously wrong. Hopefully he's not out too much longer, he's a pretty important part of the team.

This is very bad news, especially since reports had him ready to return.

Besides the obvious hit the Avs' PK and faceoff elements take, it really complicates PL's trade picture.

Chris Gratton, anyone? Gratton and Brad Ferrence for XXX???

And those poor Hershey Bears -- already depleted -- getting hit up for Clark and now McCormick. More UHL/ECHL players are a-coming down there.

Hmmm

I just had a thought - maybe they IRed Niko in order to bring up McCormick because Brigley is out and they don't want to be two forwards down tomorrow night. Since Niko's IR move is retroactive to the 24th of January, he could come back this weekend. So maybe it's not so much a reflection of the severity of Niko's injury as it is uncertainty about Brigley's.

good call. i didn't really think about that. i saw IR and then a while later realized it was retroactive to jan 24th, so he could be back basically any time. i was thinking..."#$%@, he's out longer now, this is going to suck"

I really hope thats true. Niko's faceoff abilities are what gave us a good PK, and also gave us the ability to wrap up the final few minutes of games. If he is out for a stretch, we will need to get a replacement if we want to keep up with the wings and Nucks.
