Predators sign Ian McKenzie

Big Kid, little punch

maybe he's brought into the fold to replace Darcy Hordichuk

I highly, highly doubt this signing has anything to do with Darcy's contract status. I will have to watch him in the prospect camp this summer to get a better idea, but I would assume right now this is a depth signing for the organization and McKenzie will be looked upon to fill in where Ryan Maki has fallen short this season. At a minimum this signing I think really shows that the Predators are going to put an emphasis on forwards with size this season.

Remember, the other free agent prospect we've been linked with is Linus Videll...another big kid.

McKenzie sure is a great pick-up. But he's actualy bigger than the Preds press statement - he is 6'5" and 225lbs. He skates very well too. Apparently he had over a dozen teams in the mix and he chose Nashville because of their apparent lack of size up front. He'll likely be in Milwaukee next season but I could see him get some games in Nashville within a season or two. I saw him over the last 3 seasons in the WHL and he has improved steadily every season, and we all know most really big guys don't hit their stride until they play pro.
