There are plenty of tidbits in there, but the ones that stuck out to me are as follows:
On Katz ownership process = "Things are heading in the right direction and it's just going through the necessary channels. That's all I can say. Our expectation is that it'll close in the next month to 6 weeks and then it'll be a new regime."
On Anaheim/Edmonton drafting 12/22 = "It's quite a bit different than the scenario that was painted some months ago where the sky was falling according to some, particularly a loud-mouthed fellow down south."
On Wanting To Move Up In Draft = "If we were going to do it we wouldn't be moving any guys that we feel would play a big part in our organization in the next couple years. If it's there I'll do it and I'll give it some effort but it's not a main focus like it was last year."
Also...no talks with Stoll, within a month for Glencross, wanted to do Grebeshkov for 2 years, expects short term deal with Pitkanen...wants to work some deals at the draft to grab more picks in exchange for moving some bodies...
God bless stoll, but lowe is right in being no panic in terms of a contract. I hope he signs Glencross, but for crissakes not at hysteria prices. Brian Burke is a fat noisy pig, that ain't no surprise, good on Kevin at sending a soft but truthful volley back at the loudmouth.
Thanks, Dan. How many years can Pitkanen sign for without becoming a UFA?
Exactly 1 year.
Which is what I think at this point is the most logical thing. 1 year, $3 million, lets come back in a year and if he has a break out year, then pay him or give him a long-term extension around the All-Star break.
Very much appreciated. Is it my imagination or were a lot of those questions inspired by conversations on the board here? Just asking because I think they touched on some of the better issues raised around here the last month.

So if he signs for 1 year, he'll be UFA at the end of the season?
Lowe doesn't think he will be trading guys good enough to get him very high up the draft but still wants to move a few players ( contracts ) for some picks
I agree, but the danger there is that if Pitkanen has a monster season, he either costs us a boatload to re-sign or we lose him via offer sheet (which could be good or bad, depending on how lousy the team that sheets him ends up playing in 2009-2010).

I'm on the same page with Lowe here, too bad that when I mention things like this I get crapped on. In a cap world, trades like those are a way of life.

Depends on the trade proposal. I don't think there is a chance in hell that Torres + Ana 1st gets you Cbus' 1st, much less their 1st and second.
It was also interesting to hear that Lowe saw Gilbert getting 3-3.5 million if he went to arbitration.
Yeah. He gave some insight into the process they use. I assume that this is a lot of what Olcyck (sp) does for the team in terms of offering scenarios for Lowe to pick from.
Lowe hinted at this before about picking up some more draft picks. That worries me. A solid way to stay mediocre is to keep dealing off NHL roster players for picks in return.
BBO I would not be too excited. To me with the log jam right now I could see Robbie being one of the guys going for picks before the draft. Schremp is ready and the spots are really hard to come by.
Lowe also mentioned about not trading guys that are playing a big part on the team already and "we have an excess of forwards". He then said something about having a lot of young players all ready at the same time. That it is not good getting caught with too many all ready at the same time so you have something for down the line in the future. What types of players does that leave and who does that sound like? That worries me would you be happy about trading off Schremp for a 2nd and 4th round pick or something?

If Pitkanen has a monster season, that's a good thing IMO... won't hold my breath, tho': he's marching to a different beat

Agreed but on the other side there is a risk that he does have problems and we sign him to a long term deal that we are stuck with.
