Question from Bruins fan/Avery.

Today's rumor of the day on Boston radio has the Bruins interested in Avery. Anyone have any insight to how this guy fits in on the Rangers on and off the ice? Is fan and player perception the same? Good teammate, bad guy?

he's a horrible player and even worse teammate. the bruins shouldn't sign him. in fact for that matter send the memo to the other 29 teams that he's not worth signing

I have a feeling he rubs certain people the wrong way, even if he isn't being a dick to them. It's entirely likely that some guys on the team won't like him no matter what, but he's worked well with the Rangers at least. He might need a strong veteran presence in the lockerroom to keep him on the straight and narrow.

Somehow I don't see Boston being his kind of city though, and honestly that could lead to problems

the perception is that Avery can be a distraction in the locker room. That is what was said when he was in LA, but so far in NY he hasn't shown that, or at least it hasn't been said publicly. He is definitely a strange person, and i could see how he can rub people the wrong way. A lot has to be said here about the influences of Shanahan and other vets that seem to keep him in check, without a person like that around Sean may become a cancer.

Thanks. This guy does not seem to fit the hated opponent lovable teammate cliche ala Dale Hunter,Ken Linseman etc.

The scuttle is that Shanahan and to a lesser extent Jagr have been instrumental in helping Sean become a better player/teammate on and off the ice.

Read into that the leadership in the locker room is strong.

I'm sure Drury will become the locker room leadership presence once Shanny departs.

I'm not so sure about that regarding Avery..I mean, remember when he tried to tell him to keep his stick down...?

First off, it was a joke. Second off, the point is it's very hard to set Avery straight. If it's hard for Brendan Shanahan, it must be hard for Chris Drury and Tom Renney and whoever else.

Avery is one of those people who is drawn to the spotlight & the spotlight is drawn to him, wether he want's it or not. So far Avery has played in all the big market teams Detroit, LA., However, NY is the biggest stage & he fits NY perfectly. There aren't too many other teams Avery can play on & feed his ego, but Boston & Montreal can acmodate him. You will never see Avery succeed playing for an Atlanta or Nashville, those teams don't fit his dynamic personality.

As far as a hockey player & teammate, I have a feeling as much as he aggravates his teammates, they love him @ the same time.

But what are you basing this on? I agree, it seems like Shanny has had an impact on him being that they played together for a short time in Detroit and I think even dress next to each other in the locker room. But do we know that it's been a task to set Avery straight? Even in the likely event that Shanny leaves, I think Avery knows what he's supposed to do and will continue to tread on a very fine line. But unless there's something we haven't heard, it seems like Avery has fit into the team really well on and off the ice.

I think he really wants to stay in NY. As previous posters have said, tough to see him in a boring backwater like Boston where the bars close at 1.

Pat Morris is going to take Sean Avery to July 1 and he will go to the highest bidder.

Some team will meet the asking price for Avery. It won't be the Rangers

well i've seen him with other players. i think the team respects him because he's a teammate and most of the guys on this team are exceptionally good teammates/people, but he doesn't have the best relationships with the rest of his team imo. they just know the person he is and kind of shrug off anything that could bother them.

he kind of does his own thing and doesn't really care about what anyone else thinks. he's the type of guy that will make a blunt (a-hole) comment to anyone rather than just try to kind of go about it with a soft approach.

he's not a bad guy, and people will respect him but he's not going to be anyones best friend either. all entirely my opinion of course.
