"In the last 12 years, Cheveldayoff, 37, has earned one AHL and four IHL Championships as a coach and an executive. During his tenure, the Wolves have captured the 2002 Calder Cup Championship, the 1998 and 2000 Turner Cup Championships and compiled a .619 regular-season winning percentage (453-261-24-26-44)."

Don Waddell never won a championship during his 5 seasons as GM of the San Diego Gulls, 2 as GM/Coach of the Flint Spirits, or 2 as GM of the Solar Bears.

Cheveldayoff's domination of the AHL/IHL is barely even comparable to Waddell's several playoff runs with various teams.

The way I see it is if a guy can keep a team a perennial cup challenger at any professional level for as long as Cheveldayoff has, he obviously knows a thing or two about building teams/picking players.

You'll have to elaborate for me here. Braydon Coburn gets traded to Philly last year and slides into their top 4. In less than a season, he's playing on the top pairing. That's not developing a player, that's playing him. I'd say he was pretty well done developing by the time he was traded.

The 3 championship teams in the IHL were composed nearly entirely of players picked by the organization.
