You mean Alexei Cashin? No thank you.

I'll take Alexei Yemelin though.

Those 3 words are all you need to know it'll never happen.

I doubt Yashin would sign for that.

I'd rather we had went for Fedorov instead. Least he fills a need.

Aaaaargh not this **** again. Does Garrioch even realize that we're pretty much set at center with Koivu , Plekanec , Chipchura , Lapierre and Grabovski (maybe) ?

And even if we were looking for a center (and i do think we should be looking for a big skilled center with a nose for the net ) , Yashin would be the last player we should look at. He's the antithesis of what we need and would just be redundant on this team.

Garrioch...
The Sun...

He's not a journalist and the Sun is not a newspaper. Both those entities only look for attention, that's all.

Not that I buy this rumor, but I'd hardly call us "set at centre".

The team has long talked about the need for a big body down the middle, or a right handed shot. Thus, it is not necessarily a "weird" rumor.

Why would the team need a "big body down the middle"? Yeah if you can get a Thornton or Lecavalier size at center is great, but I'd take a Plekanec or Koivu over a big lazy centerman. Center is the one spot where you need skating, hockey sense and vision, size is less important there than any other position.

I disagree.

And don't get me wrong, I am not saying Yashin is the solution, but he is big.

Also, I don't think anyone is advocating swapping a big centre out for Koivu or Pleks, simply having all three.

As i said i do think we should be looking for a big right handed center with a nose for the net but Yashin is not that guy. We need someone like Ryan Getzlaf or Vinny (or Kyle Beach ) , not someone like Trashin. Yashin may be 6"3 220lbs but Koivu at 5"10 180lbs plays bigger than him and is twice the warrior that he is so....

In the specific of Yashin, I agree.

But on paper (size and shooting hand), he does fit the bill of what the Canadiens need.

Thus, if I were a hack columnist, I'd toss his name out there too!

Anyway, I'd roll the dice with Yashin on a 1-year $2-3M deal. I don't see how that would come remotely close to what he can probably get in Russia, but if he's changing his tune to any degree about willing to take a lot less and a low-risk 1-year deal to get back in the NHL and the NA lifestyle, well, he's a big talented centre. Worst case it's Samsonov all over again, but on just a 1-year deal.
