If you have a good organization, your window should never close.
More impressive, they re-stock without blue chip prospects. Their last 1st round pick to actually play in the NHL is Kronwall and he was picked in 2000. Team is made up of 2 and 3rd round picks and a couple of longshots (Datsyuk and Zetterberg)
If you look at their draft record, it's not that good. They are better at filling in gaps by bringing experienced players.
I know, but still.....had they known, those guys would have been picked earlier. Odd how you can be so good at later rounds, but they are.
....and it will get them another cup this year.
Valid - although I'm sure there are teams that think they have gems that are on no one's radar and gamble to take them late.
What is not debatable is the quality of Detroit's euro scouting. It also seems that it makes sense taking late round flyers with Euro's. Even the Habs have had sucess with this - Markov, Streit, Halak, S.Kost.
