Hockey Hotline w/ K-Sly and general WGR talk

I have listened periodically over the last few months to HH on WGR with Kevin Sylvester. During the lockout, obviously there wasn't much to get excited or passionate about, but now that there are actual games to discuss.....

I can't believe what an arrogant dick Sylvester is when talking to callers! While remaining monotone and humorless, he's nastier than any other host on WGR. When he's got Andrew Peters on with him, he often talks down to him, like a parent to a kid.

Talk about a condescending homer. It's bad.

He's an employee of the Buffalo Sabres. When they announced the creation of the show, I anticipated things would get ugly during the rough patches when the "Trade and fire EVERYONE" clan started calling his show. He is a bit dismissive, anyways, so that was a potentially lethal cocktail from the start.

Yeah, the guy's personality doesn't mesh with broadcasting. Probably should have picked another career.

It's a tough sell for a broadcaster to get badgered day in and day out by people on the radio. It takes a toll on all but the best of them.

He sucks at announcing games and hosting that show. I have noticed the condecending attitude as well. Makes me love when he and Ray first hosted game nights and Ray talked down to him.

I have loathed Sylvester since his days as a radio guy on WGR in the late 90's.

Once he joined the Sabres broadcast team I was like
When he started doing PxP is was like
Now that he's back doing mostly radio I am like
If he ever finds another job in a different city i will be like

That snicker he constantly snorts out is just so damn irritating...

He's the definition of a complete a total TOOL...if the only move the Sabres made in the next two years was letting him go I'd put up with everything else...

Ah, the Buffalo sports media:

Where if the fans don't hate you for being overly critical and not supportive enough of our local teams, the fans hate you for being too much of a shill for the local teams.

Well that's the other problem: you get a lot of mouthbreathers calling there with their ridiculous trade proposals and other armchair GM/coach/owner ideas, and they think K-Sly is stupid for not being in complete agreement with them. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if we get a great live radio moment in the next month or two.

Yeah, that too.

It's all the nonsense of a message board, but he is forced to respond instantly instead of ignoring stupidity or being able to formulate a better counterargument.

I just don't take much of what he says seriously. He's a huge homer, especially with PxP, it's so hilarious even.

I haven't listened to him on the radio but I'm glad I don't have to see him on TV anymore. He never came off as a hockey person and didn't have the personality to be on a broadcast team so I always wondered how he made it this far.

Speaking of broadcast teams, the Sabres need to totally clean house once RJ retires, other than maybe Duff. I purchased CI this season, and I have to say we have a really weak broadcasting team compared to a lot of other teams around the league.

Sylvester was a favorite of Larry Quinn's for some reason, and Terry Pegula never fires anyone. Thus, he's still here. At least he got punted to the radio after the overwhelmingly negative reaction towards him in last year's fan survey.

He does well when asked to handle the ice level interviews. Actually the right personality for it.

Not a fan of the PxP

I didn't mind him as a studio host. In my dream world:

Rob Ray to unemployment
Kevin Sylvester hosts intermission report & interviews with Duff and whoever
Brian Duff to the booth with RJ for color commentary.

He's not a WGR host.
This show is merely a two hour paid advertisement for the Buffalo Sabres Hockey Club.
He even admits on air that he's just a shill.

Yes, Sylvester is paid by the Sabres and he is a company "YES" man even when towing the corporate line is absurd and insulting.

I find his show un-listenable for a variety of reasons, and rarely listen to it as a result.

Sylvester is just another in a long line of mediocre WNY "broadcasters" incapable of finding work in another market of equal or greater size for obvious reasons.

Are the actual results to the fan survey posted anywhere?
