He picked a pretty good time to start scoring goals.

The celebration after his 1st goal was classic, lucky he didn't break the glass when he climbed up it like that.

Latvian TV commercials are pretty funny.

Anyways, like someone said, what a time to start scoring goals for Ilya. First to tie the game and then win it in OT. Go Ilya!

He looks like Keanu Reeves there. Which definitely makes me agree with the "Special Olympics" hockey!

An interview with Ilya's mother which includes several photos of Ilya as a child.

As Atlanta fans know, Ilya is a big Momma's Boy...he was extremely close to both of his parents. She actually looks younger now than she did when Ilya was a kid.

That can't be god for Atlanta or it's fans. Your dynamic player just learned what it's like to win and now has the bug.

If Atlanta brass does not spend big money to the limit of the cap this seaon to show they are willing to put talent around Ilya - he'll be demanding a trade or walk like Hossa did as a UFA.

I was thinking the same thing.

However, that is later on (this summer actually), I am VERY happy for and proud of Ilya!

But really, these big winning goals by IK and AO's play last season should spur the ASG to add the needed pieces to get Kovy the open ice he needs to lead the team back to the playoffs next season.

Considering the Thrashers won the SE with a team that was just as talented as the one that came in 3rd to last in the league this season, I am not that worried.

Implementing a system that will cut down on SOG against, and adding another puck moving defenseman(and already adding a physical Dman like Valabik) would drastically change the teams fortunes.

I know most people think the Thrashers are a bottom feeder, but in all honesty...the team on the ice was far better than its record. It was just horribly coached, with a couple of key players having down seasons.

The Thrashers do need to spend the cap money they have by losing Holik and Hossa, but getting the right coach in will do a world of good.

Awesome goal by Kovy, sweet way to end an exciting tournament!

Something funny I noticed...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0SKKzSmwSxo

Check out Shane Doan's face at the 32 seconds mark.

Now his post-game TSN quotes...

Quote:
"Team Canada's won a ton of these and you're going to lose once and awhile," said captain Shane Doan. "Unfortunately, it was tonight. That's the way it goes."

"We've won I don't know how many in a row. It's tough to keep winning that many in a row."
http://www.tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/st...=topStory_main

You'd think playing for Phoenix all these years would have made him a bit more of a gracious loser.

It was a lazy afternoon...I was watching the game where Canada had the 4-2 lead...I fell asleep and next thing you know I woke up the commotion of Kovalchuk scoring the game winning goal.

Nice performance by Kovalchuk coming through in the clutch like that, but

Dang....dang dang
