Canadiens players at 2010 Olympics in Vancouver?

i was not sure i should start a thread on it, but after going to the IIHF this weekend, and some talk of the olympics today in the media... i figured to see what are people's thoughts about Carey Price to be in vancouver for 2010??

i mean obviously there is a nice list of cdn goalies:

Luongo
Turco
Brodeur
ward
Fleury (this is not my choice, but he is being penciled in as an option in some articles)

2 years from now, i thnk Price could be a great choice! and wouldn't it be nice for him to be playing so close to home!

any other players you think the habs will have at the 2010 games?
koivu
kovalev (if he is fast enough)
Markov
kosty bros
others?

I think Komi's chances are excellent. Higgy has a shot, but I think his odds are slimmer.

Its really 1 and a half NHL seasons away...

Price is a darkhorse candidate...
the rest of the guys you mentionned in the OP will go for sure; with Kovalev up in the air.

I think Pleks and Hammer go for the Czechs
Slovakia will take Halak (battle with Budaj for number 1 job)
Komisarek will go for US
Higgins is possible for US
Grabovsky for Belarus
Streit for the Swiss; Weber for the Swiss

1 thing is for sure.

In 2010, many things will be different than now.

We have a large list of "potential" players. Even Latendresse might develop immensely, or Halak, or Lapierre or Gorges...

Its though to predict two years in advance.

But I think the Finn and the Belarussians are safe bets.

Maybe a Russian and an American or two.

I think Komisarek's got a pretty good chance.
Higgins... I'm doubtful, to be honest, though I'd love for him to make it.
Markov for sure.
Kovalev... I don't know what the politics involved are.
Koivu! Nuff said.
I think that Team Canada is spoiled for goalies. Brodeur will be almost 38 by then. If he says yes, the goalies are going to be him, Luongo and Turco. Let's say they offer him a chance to play but not necessarily to start so he says no. Then Luongo and Turco are in for sure, but I think the choice for the third string goalie is going to come down to how well Fleury and Price do next year. Whichever one shows more of a chance to be in the Brodeur-Luongo class will get the nod (Price, duh). Osgood and Ward will be staying home.
We might see Pleks and Hammer.
We will see the Kostys and Grabs for sure, cause, well, who else has Belarus got?

i know hes not a hab, but i really dont see brodeur being on the team canada roster for 2010. Hes getting older and hes not what he used to be, not to mention goalies like Luongo, Ward, Leclaire, Price, Biron ,turco, fleury and whoever else will all be candidates. I think Brodeurs days as an int'l goalie are done.

I still think he's the best goalie in the NHL and he's the only player that showed up in 2006.

Luongo has a serious shot as the starter though considering Vancouver is his home ice and he's one hell of a goalie too.

Price might have a shot in 2010 as the third string, but I doubt it. Turco will s till be around. Count him in for 2014 though if his progression continues.

I feel the same, but I'm worried Team Canada GM might not.

Lets praythe beatings he took against us this season will bore him from hockey.

If so, we buy popcorn and look at how funny the devils will be next year

That's if NHL players take part in those olympics.

Very true. Bettmann could be gone before then too though.

Fans would rather see Olympic hockey with professionals than an All-Star game, I'm sure. The problem is no revenue for the NHL.

You garantee? Really..

Do you also sell garantees for electronic equipment or cars? If so, then you're my insurance salesman!

i could see them bringing in a young guy like price or fleury or another young goalie as a 3rd string for the olympics just for the experience. I cant really remember a time when the 3rd goalie had to actually step in and play so im sure its a possibility.

Thats exactly what I was thinking.... going with Turco in 06 was a better move than Belfour in 02, or the Sean Burke move that was discussed.....

The third goalie should be one of Price, Fleury, Ward, instead of the veteran guys.

Ward will have an edge on Price as he just played the WC.

But I thought he played poorly. IMO, Ward and Miller are the 2 most overrated goalies in the league. Many have them in the top 10, but they are both between 15-20 in the NHL right now.

I disagree. I seriously doubt that Team Canada will ever see Ward as a "goaltender of the future," whereas Price (and even Fleury, though less so) is already being considered that way.

carey price at the olympics?? he's going to really have to step up his game to earn his spot but thats actually a good question. Why not take a young goalie like price on as a #3 so that he'll get the experience of the olympics. Whats the point in bringing an older guy as #3 who want play anyway?

Let's just say that their chances are at about 1%...equal to every other non all-star playing the game today.

I can see Price as a 3rd goalie.
