He is quick on his skates, hits everything he can and plays well in PK.

But he has not shown any sign of good hands or a scoring touch, yet.

Looks like the goalies have been the story of this series. Which goalie will step up in the deciding game?

Having a bad feeling it will be Pelts and the Freezers.
Won't be able to watch tomorrow's game either

the lions are the better team though. and gordon > pelts.

once they score a PP-goal, i assume the lions will bring the game home. this series is all about the lions PP.
and the freezers...well, barta is a damn good player who can decide games on his own. but the freezers are basically barta + a few others, but it doesn't look like a team.

so my guess is that we will see the away team winning it for the 5th time. (odd series for sure)

Whoever comes out of tomorrow will be having a hard time not to be eaten alive by Berlin.

After Freezers' OT goal yesterday I hoped that our season is going to end on Wednesday. And even after one night of sleep I do not feel much hope about tomorrow's game. The last games our D-core struggeled offensively in a way I have never seen before and our PP was so bad that everyone was scared when the Lions drew a penalty.
Every other Top 8 team would have taken much more advantage of it...

I will not be able to watch it so maybe the Lions are going to surprise me.

Just found out I will be able to watch...if it's on..not sure with the pp tha t I should watch...I almost get that feeling of some Wings past playoffs peppering Giguere and Kipper with a million shots but nothing going in...I just think Hamburg has all the momentum now...

Lions score 5 minutes into the 2nd period to tie it up.

Freezers score with under 90 seconds left in the 2nd period.

Heading home so I won't know the result until after the game is over.

Playoffs

GAA 1.97 vs 2.36
Save %age .941 vs. .914
Saves 172 vs 127

Season

Minutes 3108 vs 3027
GAA 2.68 vs 2.69
Saves 1676 vs 1372
Save %age .923 vs .910

And, even JMP recorded the win in the All-Star game while Gordon recorded the loss.

Not only does JMP play more and face significantly more shots than Gordon, or any other goalie in the DEL for that matter, but his save %age is .013 better in the regular season and .027 better in the playoffs!

So in the end, what you are saying is that the goalie with worst stats in every category is better than the goalie with the better stats?

As for Gordon not being the problem in this series, you may be right, but he also wasn't the solution. However, it seems to me that this series is an example of a goaltender putting his team on his back and willing them to victory and it was the guy with a GAA under 2 and a save %age over .941 that did that (who also didn't blow a 2-0 lead on top if it).

yep, because i couldn't care less for stats. stats don't tell the true story. you can't compare two goalies behind two completely different teams by stats. you don't know the quality of the shots they face each game and you don't know how often they have to face break-aways etc.
there's a difference between not getting many, but quality shots on goal and getting peppered from every angle by weak shots.

if i could choose a goalie for my team out of the current DEL goalies, i would go with hauser first and rob zepp second. both are the ones i'd trust the most.

pelletier is a good goalie, he's just not the best IMO.

and please, don't tell snoil that i like a lions player. i could lose my face.

I agree that stats don't always tell the story. However, when Hamburg has one of the most porous defenses in the league, stats do mean a little more.

I agree with you completely about Hauser, but disagree 100% about Zepp.

did i wrote hauser?

this huskies-lions thing makes me completely brain****ed.

i meant gordon of course. hauser is the last one i want on my team and he's the guy i got.
hauser is great at times and a rebound machine with soft goals at others. there's no consistency. and that's what i like about gordon. he's always there. not spectacular, but gets his job done.

i guess when ranking goalies it's about what style you prefer. i want a goalie who's in the game the whole time and who gets his job done. i don't need spectacular saves and such stuff.

gordon reminds me of rogles. nothing spectacular, the stats aren't the best, but the team feels so comfortable with his as goalie. and somehow the fans do too.

pelletier needs to be more consistent. too many off-games yet. but he could be on his way to get there. he was much better this season. the DEL is a league you need to grow into as goalie. brathwaite will have to learn that too. his last 15-20 games weren't that good. i wouldn't be surprised if he gets into trouble this POs.
might have to do with the pace of the game. it's so slow...goalies have to be calm. you have to be patient and that's why some good NA goalies fail in the DEL.

Yes, you wrote Hauser.

I agree with your assessment of Pelletier. Consistency has been his problem since his rookie season in the AHL. When he's on his game, he's as good as anyone and if he's hot he can carry a team to a lot of victories. However, when he's bad, he can't stop a beachball!
