Nice job in the playoffs and in general this past season! Guys like Pihlstrom and Hornqvist will only make things more interesting in Nashville and that blueline is still the backbone of the team.
Wouldn't be surprised if Alex Sulzer already makes a good push to join the blueline next fall.
Anyhow, with a decent amount of good young role players on the team/in the system, do you folks think there's any chance that the Preds would be willing to send both of their first rounders (I believe 9 and 15) to the Islanders for their 1st (5th overall) and one of their decent young bubble-NHL RFA forwards (Nielsen or Tambellini)?
The thought is that with that 5th overall, the Preds could perhaps get that "franchise forward", particularly if Filatov is still hanging around at 5, if not Hodgson or Boedker. Both Nielsen (two-way playmaking Dane who's looked not at all out of place during NHL call-ups) and Tambellini (just had 39 goals and over 70 points in less than 60 AHL games) are early 20ies and on the cusp of the NHL. Each want a one-way contract. The Islanders however, as much as they like both, simply have a bunch of bubble-NHL RFAs to re-sign (those two, Bergenheim, Colliton, Walter, Regier, etc.) with 10 forward spots already taken, although they desperately need to sign an enforcer and some 1st/2nd line talent.
Now, I'm not saying the Isles would be looking to do this type of deal for sure (considering they too could use a one of the top 6 players, who seem to be a head above the rest), but when the Isles have their turn to pick, I'm suspecting that Snow will be looking to see who's gonna want to deal and it's not much of a stretch to say that the Isles feel fairly strongly about each of Boedker/Hodgson/Petrov/Wilson (one around #9?) and Myers/Beach/Tenenby/Del Zotto (one around #15?).
Anyhow, just curious about what Preds fans would think of such a move with two fairly decent draft picks in their hands?
