OT: Fun little stat

was bored, and I was reading wikipedia. Anyway, found a nice little stat that I thought you all would enjoy.

1991-92 season:
Quote:
New York Rangers defenceman Brian Leetch became the 5th, and last as of 2008, defenceman to score 100 points in a season. He finished the season with 102 points and captured the Norris Trophy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1991%E2%80%9392_NHL_season

Amazing, that no one has done it since, but it's great that the last to do it was Brian.

Doesn't surprise me. Leetch was a gem and helped turn the NYR into an offensively superior team. You can't expect many d-men to match him these days.

Leetch

The reason Leetch was able to do that was because of one man...

Big Jeff Beukeboom. After Beuk retired, Leetch was never the same.

The garden used to resonate with BOOM BOOM...after every one of his hits.

The stupid punk Matt Johnson sucker puched him to retirement.

Amazing how fragile an ankle a 100 point scorer could have. I have no doubt we would've won the Cup that year, if not for his broken ankle.
