Great thread. I have to chime in on this one. I hated Blair Witch. It took about a 1/2 hour for the 3 of them to annoy me so much that I wanted them dead.

Edit: The best thing about it was that there were no tacky monsters or stupid cgi stuff. It let your imagination do the thinking on what it really as that was killing them.
That's the best thing about one of my favourites - Halloween. It's just some huge lumbering maniac with a knife stalking people. It's subtle. No need for extra gore/special effects (not that special effects were used as much in the 70s) to make it scary, it already was. You knew what was killing people, but at the same time you didn't really know too much (especially since Michael Myers' identity and connection to his sister were not fully revealed in the first movie).
But I will add I did not like Blair Witch for the same reason stated a few posts ago... there were only two or three scenes worth watching anyway.. and even then they were nothing special.

OK, enough is enough. I'm anything but homphobic, I don't buy into pre-conceived notions as to what guys should like, if I had a son and he rejected hockey for the works of Gilbert&Sullivan, I'd love him anyways, but favorite romantic comedies ?
If I call a lodge meeting, every now and then I call up some old buddies and just say 'lodge meeting Thursday', reminiscient of old Flintstone epiosed except with beer,
and asked what our favorite romantic comedies were, the table would go silent. Not a good silence. You can be in touch with your female side, you can even touch your female side, but your favorite romantic comedies ? You're treading in dangerous and frilly waters my friend.

You're the rookie. Dario Argento barely made horror movie. More like suspence/giallo/fantastic movies. Stuff I still love though. Ok he wrote and produce the Demons movies but he didn't direct it. And you don't need to tell me about which movies I should watch cause I watched about everything Argento did.
For full horror, go Lucio Fulci and be ready to puke your guts.
Troma are good the first few times but then get... you know, always the same. B-movies are fun and everything but you can't never categorize it as ''good''.
Oh yeah, I forgot. My favourite is Dawn of The Dead. Cream of horror.

The message I was trying to give in the end was meant for the people who seem to mention only "mainstream" stuff. Although there is good mainstream stuff some of the best horror is things most people have not heard of.
I like Fulci. City of the living dead had a scene where someone is trowing their intestines...although i wouldnt call that horror its a scene i'll always remember...

"Night of the Living Dead" is hardly a spin off of "Dawn of the Dead."
"Dawn" is the sequel to "Night."
"Night" was made in 1968, and was one of the first zombie movies ever made. It literally kick-started a whole new genre of horror films.
"Night" was followed by "Dawn" then by "Day of the Dead" then by "Land of the Dead" and finally, last year, by "Diary of the Dead."
I would say night of the living dead was responsible for "modern" zombies but is far from being one of the first zombie movies. Look on IMDB and there are plenty of zombie movies (as bad as most i have watched are) prior to NOTLD.

I find the return of the living dead "fun" and they are one of the many spinoffs off of NOTLD.
Zombie 2,3,4,5 are others...and the list goes on and on. Part of the reason for a lot of ripoffs that can mention NOTLD is the film was not copyrighted and is actually public domain.

Also, in 2005, "Day of the Dead 2: Contagium" was released.
