Sydor to play, Malkin line change

"SYDOR TO PLAY IN GAME 3
Posted by mvuk

Sources tell me that Michel Therrien will make another lineup change tomorrow night. Veteran defenseman Darryl Sydor will be back in the Pens lineup for Game 3. Sydor has been a healthy scratch for the Pens since March 31st vs. the NY Rangers. No word on who will be scratched but if I'm the coach, Hal Gill would be watching from the press box. His strength is supposed to be this physical play, so far he's hit nothing.

*I'm also told another big line change could be on the way involving Evgeni Malkin."

Please MT, for the sake of my mental health, no Malkin with Crosby and no Sydor instead of Letang!

Nothing will get the team going like a guy that spent all year mailing it in.

Sydor will probably be in for Letang, and to absolutely nobody's surprise, I'm against it. What's Sydor gonna do that Letang hasn't?

Not have the ability to pinch down low to snap a good shot off.

Sydor's been there before. He should be in for Hal Gill of MT's got his head on right. As for Malkin. Look for him to be with Gary Roberts. MT is going to try to have him protected. Roberts and Sykora with Malkin. How ineffective.

Am I the only one that thinks Roberts has been more of a liability lately than anything? Yeah he's playing the wings tough, but he's not being very smart about it. He's not the same Roberts we had against Ottawa last year.

I posted in the Sydor thread that he would be in for Game 3 if the D didn't look up to par. Whether or not this is going to work is yet to be seen.

I don't think the idea is to play smart hockey for him. His leadership and age imply that he knows what he's doing. Right now, he's just trying to lead by example. The first shift of Game 2, he had a fire under him. That might have been the most pressure in the Wings' zone that we saw at even strength during the entire game.

I do agree that he is becoming a liabilty, but honestly, can you really say that Georges Laraque was playing a smarter game than Roberts? I don't think so. And even if he was, it doesn't take much to skate 3 minutes per game. Next year, I imagine Roberts won't see much time if he's even still around. He still has it in him, but this year has been a total flop for him. Between the Broken Leg and his constant sickness, you'd think he was 85 years old. But I still think we need him for this series.

Down 2-0 in their series and held without a single goal, Penguins head coach Michel Therrien hinted that he will place centres Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin together in five-on-five situations.

"We would do it at times," Therrien told reporters Monday. "We do it at times."
I'm sure as always with Therrien, lines are subject to change.

Letang has been horrible.

I wouldnt mind seeing a Sydor for Letang swap to see how it works. Sydor used to have a decent shot....

I cant think of anything worse than Malkin, Sid, Hossa.... Unless the line score 5 goals bc i dont see other lines scoring..

There's no way Eaton's rehabbed enough to play a pickup game, let alone in the SCF.

I'm as big a Letang guy as we have on this board, but I agree with the move to bring back Sydor and sit Letang. As a matter of fact, is there a move we CAN'T justify after not scoring a frickin' goal in two games? Shake the whole boat up, I don't care.

We're running out of race track in a hurry here. We can't leave any moves for the next game, there really isn't a "next game" technically. I also would probably bring Laraque back. Sit Ruutu.

I have no problem with Malkin playing with Sid and Hossa either, he has been awful as well. May as well have someone with Sid who can put the puck in the net when he does get it cuz he surely isnt creating on his own at this point.

How about we throw them together and start with getting 1? Anything else has worked so well.

I feel bad for Letang. He's got the potential but he doesn't seem quite ready yet. I've seen him pass up a shot opportunity countless times and try to force a pass that isn't really there.
I think he could easily replace Whitney in the next year or two if Whitney continues to avoid physical contact like he often does. That evens things out in my mind.
Letang just needs a little confidence boost that comes with experience. It seems like he's joined the rush more often in the Finals than any other time during the season/playoffs. It almost makes me wonder if he'd been told to hold back and he's taking it upon himself to try to do something despite the coaching staff's direction to the contrary. Pure speculation of course but the guy has it in him to be a game breaker sooner rather than later.

****ing hell.

Panic moves like this are just going to dig us a deeper hole.

Malone Malkin Sykora got us into the damn playoffs and now when we're fighting for hockey's biggest prize he changes the lines.
