Wheeler or Michal Frolik

Neither has been signed yet or i haven't seen anything about it. Either would fill the 2nd line center problem, should we try to trade for there rights and try to sign. People think Wheeler will probably sign with Phoenix and think Florida wont get Michal Frolik signed, I really liked this guy and was hoping we would draft him but I think we took Kopi instead. Hey, when he feel into our laps, what do ya do. So now maybe we go after Frolik. Prospect and a pick? I think he would come to LA, fun town for a kid.

Frolik was the 2006 (Bernier) draft and he'll be an unrestricted free agent if he doesn't sign with Florida in the next few weeks. There's no sense giving up anything for a few weeks worth of his rightst, but I'd definitely be interested in signing him if Florida can't.

EDIT: falsehood.

So would he re-enter the draft we, we could offer up Dallas 1st round pick, better then the second they would get if they don't sign him. Bogo plus Frolik with our first 2 picks looks good.

My bad about the wrong draft year Frolik will be good in this league.

not at all curious as to why a team failed to sign the player they drafted, should that actually happen?

I don't know where you are getting this info Hans. If Frolik does not sign with Florida then he goes back into the draft. Wheeler on the other hand will probably become a free agent (if he does not sign with Phoenix). But I do not know if I would try to sign him. He has some issues.

What, and have him turn out like Roussin? I think we've learned our "Florida didn't sign this guy" lesson. At least, I HOPE we learned it!

Actually Florida did try to sign Roussin, but they faxed the contract he NHL offices about 30 minutes past the deadline and it was not approved. Also Roussin was a 7th round pick (223rd overall) in 2003 and was never suppose to be an NHL level talent. He just put up good numbers because of his linemate (Crosby). Taylor was a moronfor wasting a 2nd rond pick on Roussin. Frolik on the other hand was a top 10 pick in the 2006 draft and was compared to Jaromir Jagr. There is a huge difference between the two.

Already posted above but comparing Frolik to Roussin is one of the funnier comments I have read in a bit. Anyways if we could pick up either of them that would be awesome, both still have great potential and actually been developing quite well. I doubt either does not get signed by their team or if so joins us. Still would be awesome if it happened though.

Why wouldn't Wheeler be an RFA?

Because next month Phoenix will lose their rights to him. So they would not get the right to match any offer.

teams get a specific window with which to sign a player or risk losing them outright once they leave college, right?

You are correct. Phoenix's window of opportunity ends on June 1st (I believe). So they have about a week to sign him or he becomes a UFA.

Would it be legal to trade his rights for a conditional pick, at least as far frolik was concerned?

I thought he would re enter the draft, thats why we should trade for the rights to sign him, it would be worth a prospect or a pick, like i stated Bogo and Frolik with Dallas 1st, that would be an excellent 1st round.

Well, you guys are probably right about him re-entering the draft. I was using A.J. Thelen as my evidence as to him going straight to UFA, but it turns out he was an '04 (21 years old) and not an '05 (20) like I thought he was. Anyway, I'm still not interested in trading for a few weeks of his rights, but I would consider drafting him if he falls out of the first round.

I don't think I would use a 1st round pick on Frolik. The reason for this is.....if he did not want to sign with Folrida then why would he want to sign with LA?

We got up and coming players and a team, and its LA he would get a chance to play here which would be appealing to young players. Who wouldn't want to play between Frolov and Cammi or any other of our top 6, it would be good for his numbers.Heck, if Army can put up good numbers when he was clicking with Fro and Cammi, what could this kid do.

What type of pick would Florida get if he re-enters the draft, 30 plus his original number selected. 10th overall i think so would they get the 40th pick. We could offer them our middle 2nd, it would be better than 40th.
