I wouldn't do it if I were Phoenix.

Nor would I. All things considered, Michalek might be the most valuable defenseman the Coyotes have.

Vermette isn't garbage by any means, but Ottawa still gets the most valuable player in this trade.

Phoenix passes.

As far as Vermette for Carcillo, Ottawa passes.

I don't see a lot of Michalek, but is he that good? Schubert and Vermette are both good players, but not great one. But still, to refuse that deal, he must be a real good defenseman, better that what I was thinking.

He's a bit underrated around these parts, so it's understandable. Michalek plays a very quiet game, similar to Teppo Numminen. He didn't get a lot of powerplay time last year, so his numbers dwindled a bit, but he's a very effective player, and he's on a very cheap deal.

Hell throw in Ilya Zubov, and a 3rd in 2009 and see if they bite

If not just change the 3rd to a 2nd in 09

We might as well give them Zubov or Nikulin b/c there is no way both of them are going to be 2nd liners in the future with our packed roster

No way does Ottawa pass if it's Carcillo and a 3rd or 4th.

I wouldn't trade Michalek for Vermette. I'd rather put together a package centered around other assests, namely our wealth of 2nd rounders (we have four) for him. If he can't be had for such a price, I'd look elsewhere.

I don't think it was a case of wanting/needing to move Vermette, but wanting to acquire Michalek and attempting to put together the assets necessary to do it.

I wouldn't do this if I were Phoenix though...

I disagree, but to each their own. We need to keep Vermette, especially cuz Kelly is more than likely leaving, we can't afford to lose both and Carcillo can't do what they do (Completely different players).

Vermette for Carcillo and a 3rd would be a terrible move for Ottawa.

They have Neil. No need for Carcillo.

Phoenix adds salary. Definite no-no.

Carcillo is a much better version of Chris Neil. *MUCH* better.

True, but Neil is good enough at that role that we don't need to move our best 2-way player, who happens to be our 2nd line centre, best PKer and best faceoff man.

Again, I'm not questioning Carcillo as a player, we just need Vermette more. As good as Carcillo was last year, Vermy is still the much more valueable player of the 2.
