Interesting as Matheson talks about the comparasions between the Oilers and Penquins

Money (or lack of) could tear Penquins apart

Two things about the Penguins article by Matheson.

1. Sykora wasn't stapled to any bench Jim. Watch the game and you will see that Malkin got the odd long shift between Hall and Talbot for more ice.

2. The Penguins have enough depth on defense to let a guy like Mark Eaton go. Don't use him as a cog that is going to have to be let go because of cash. They didn't miss him while he was out injured as far as I can tell.

Sykora finished 9th in forwards in TOI in that game, and spent 5+ minutes sitting at several points during the 3rd period and the 1st OT period. It wasn't until the 2nd OT period that he got more shifts.

Depends on whether or not they can keep Orpik.

I like that Omark is getting some coverage now that he's in North America.

For those that doubt his size:

"I like what I see. He's small but he doesn't play small." - Prendergast

I don't think Sami Kapanen is too bad of a comparison for Omark.

It's about time someone made it clear that the comparisons of the current Pens to the '83 Oilers are totally off the mark. It's a different age with different rules and the Pens have a slew of free agents to try and keep around, where as the Oilers had no such issues at the time.

Not only are there issues for the current offseason, but NEXT offseason also holds many question marks (as Matheson said) with Malkin and Staal being set to be re-upped at inflated amounts. It's going to be very interesting to see how Shero handles all of these contracts in the coming months.
