Assuming Kaberle would waive his NTC, I'd still be hesitant to do this trade as Toronto. Kaberle is young and cheap so could stay through a "rebuild", although Stafford is decent he doesn't approach Kaberle's offense and the late first, marginal prospect and 3rd round pick don't blow me away.

I'm sure Toronto passes

I doubt that as well, Buffalo gives up one forward from their roster and adds a top 15 D-man in the league. They don't lose anything they will miss later.

I don't know if Buffalo would pass. But I think I would.

No thanks. Not a good deal at all for Toronto.

Kaberle's value is better than that, IMO. He's one of Toronto best assest. Your offer is realist, but if I'm TO, I still don't do that. That kind of defenseman is really difficult(good offensivelly and defensivelly) to found. For me, it takes major overpayment. Staffort will be good, but don't proove a lot last year, with some offensive spot available. Still a real good proposal, but Kaberle stay at Toronto.

Everybody keeps ripping on Stafford, who's 22 and just finished the traditional Sophomore Slump season. He'll be fine.

As for the trade, no thanks. Stafford is going to be a very solid 2nd liner in a Ryan Smyth mold, and trades within the divivision are not Darcy Regier's style. He's hesitant to trade within the Conference [see Noronen to the SE division].

I'd probably do it, I'm not sure I ever see Funk developing into an NHL dman and a 3rd isn't a big deal. So for me it's basically a young, promising RW, and a late 1st round pick for a top dman in the league, I'll take it.

During the rebuild costs for salary don't mean much to Toronto, because unlike other cities the ACC will still sell out every game regardless of the team.

Actually no one ripped on Stafford, the comments here are actually pretty complementary. However, a possible good 2nd liner doesn't equal Kaberle

It doesn't mean much to Toronto that Kaberles cheap, but cap space is very valuable under the cap system, and you're saving about 2-3 mill of what Kaberle would make on the open market

Toronto isn't going to give up Kaberle for parts. He's worth a lot more than that

I think that's a lot to give up for Buffalo. I mean, all in all, it'd be a relatively good deal on both ends, but you're giving up a good chunk of Buffalo's future right there and they're gonna want to re-sign Miller to an extensive contract next year.

How does it benefit Toronto? Not at all, the team loses offense and defense. A late 1st, a 3rd and Funk don't make up the difference.

How does it benefit Buffalo? They gain a clear #1 D-man who plays exactly the way Buffalos system is set up, fast, mobile, puck moving. Kaberle makes up for the loss of Stafford offensively and defensively, imo. gives them a much better PP, and is extremely cap-friendly. Minimal damage to Buffalo's roster (with their offensive depth they can afford the loss of Stafford)

Too much to give up for Buffalo? They're giving away 2 role players for one of the best (and underpaid) 2-way d-men in the league!

If Buffalo's "future" is Stafford and Funk, I feel bad for Sabres fans!
