i know john carlson is who i want also. we would have to trade up to get him, its possible, but since we have like no 2nd,3rd and what no 3rd next year i think, its gonna be difficult to pull off. unless we trade knuble and some kind of a pick for an early 20.

i went with markstrom. just a crap shoot. on average 1 out of the 4 goalies is gonna be a player. which one, goona have to wait and see.

I voted Yann Sauve. I picked him in the mod mock, because a lot of the better guys were gone. From what i've read he's got a great skillset, just had a D minded coach, so didnt have amazing numbers.

don't know much about a lot of those guys but I would like to see the Flyers land Tyler Cuma or a player like him.

Why isn't trading down an option in this poll. I would rather trade down with Phoenix and get two early seconds for our first. Otherwise I would take Chet Pickard. The organizations biggest long-term need right now is an upper-echelon goalie for the future. Despite our shortcomings with drafting goalies in the first round (Quellet, Boucher) you have to keep in mind both Nitty, and more importantly Biron, aren't signed past this season so there are no guarantees both or either one will be back.

I am looking DMan first, goalie second. I like Del Zotto (who we would have to trade for), Carlson (who might be there, but may require trade up), Robak (trade up here as well?), Gardiner, Pickard, Sauve, McCollum, Markstrom, Niemi, Ness.

I've read that Brian Burke and the Anaheim scouting staff say Sauve is an awful lot like Francois Beauchemin only at this stage in his development, Sauve is more in control of his temper than Beauchemin was. I've also read that if he were anywhere else in the Q, he's a 50 to 60 point defenseman.

I voted Staal, but would be happy with Pickard or trading down and getting more picks.

With only one pick in the 1st three rounds, if there are no trades, does it change the Flyers approach? Are they more conservative and go for a more “safe” pick. Or do they go for biggest potential upside where there might be more risk for what ever reason. As an example if both are available do the pick Cuma or Josi? Here is what Redline has on both:

Tyler Cuma: “He's a converted forward with outstanding skating agility. While still adapting to the blue line, he shows the potential to be a shutdown guy who can move the puck efficiently out of danger. He also has great character and will be a solid, stable guy for any organization.

Roman Josi may be the best pure passing D-man in the draft. He makes great outlets and is particularly adept at making the long, lead pass to break the trap up the middle for a breakaway. He's also a smooth skater and very intelligent. One proviso though: he's probably not going to be selected in the first round simply because NHL clubs are leery of taking Swiss players high unless they show a real commitment about wanting to play in the league. Josi's club team in Switzerland has already promised him a spot in their top four next season, so he may not be coming over to North America right away.”

pickard's got the "intriguing" tag for me...he had one hell of a season this year and we all know we need a goalie in the system.

even if we were to get him though, and marty re-signs for say 2-3 years after this season, he still might not be ready right away.

my dream is doughty, but that's where it stops.

I voted Staal because his last name ends with Staal.

Seems like everyone else has one. I mean, what if the Devils draft him? We wouldnt want to be the only team in the Atlantic (that matters) without our own Staal now would we?

You're right... guess we'd just have to trump them all and work out a trade for Eric. Maybe Umberger, Jones, and Nodl would get it done?

I dont want the 4th best staal on our team. Why are people seriously voting for him, hes not going anywhere in the first round, that would be a terrible pick...not a chance do they take him.

I voted for Lalonde. I think he will be a sleeper. The kid can fly, plays RD and shoots right which we need. Holmgren has said we need to upgrade our speed on the blueline and Lalonde has some of the best wheels I have seen in awhile.

Can someone give me the scoop on Eberle? I see a lot of people voted for him.

I went with Pickard. People say we do poorly when we pick a goalie, but show me a defensman that we did a good job with.

I voted Nemisz. As someone who sees this kid play alot, I think he is going to be really good. Has good size 6'3, 205lbs and a ton of skill. The knock against him is his skating, which I don't think is that bad.

From that list:
1. Colborne
2. Eberle
3. Nemisz
4. Gardiner
5. Pickard

I know we need D and G, but those three forwards are BPA at that point in the draft, and steals at 27. I think Pickard is most likely to be there, from thos I picked.

I know. There's also no chance that Holmgren reads these boards, so I am just having some fun with the guy that wanted to draft someone because of their last name.
