Ok, my bad. I thought that was from some kind of journalistic source.

As the saying goes, “when the going gets rough, the rough get going”. Markov did the exact opposite, putting on a disappearing act when the play got rougher this Spring, which cannot have gone unnoticed by the Habs’ brass…

So we cannot rule out that a wild card scenario has the Habs signing guys like Redden and/or Orpik, then trading Markov for offensive help. Curious what he would fetch?
Anybody can be traded...but wouldn't move Markov at this point. Another year and if our young studs on the blueline are ready, and another team bowls us over with an offer. Sure...

Guy Lafleur is now known for his stupid comment. His fans begin too, I think. 2 years from now, I remember threads about the only goal in playoff of Datsiuk since the beginning of his career... The last time our best player don't show up in playoff, we trade Pierre Turgeon with Craig Conroy for Shayne Corson and the great Murray Baron...

Maybe there was pressure but this kind of pressure ? I don't know, my reaction if I was him would probably like : Ok whatever, I'm sure you'll miss me more than I miss you.
Don't underestimate how important the international events are to European players, especially Russians. During the days of the USSR, there was a huge emphasis to athletes on performing well to bring pride to your country, and that patriotism seems to have carried over to the new countries that resulted from the breakup of the USSR. If Russia felt they needed Markov to play at the WC, threatening him with being blacklisted from the Olympic team would almost certainly be an effective way to get him to play at the WC.

I've always thought trading Markov was a great idea....but only if it's a package including Price and the Kostitsyns

Well, if they needed him badly at the WC, imagine how they'll badly need him during the Olympics when every country will have their full lineup... That's why I said at the end : "I'm sure you'll miss me more than I miss you".. If they make that kind of threats against their players, they hurt themselves more than they hurt their players...

But yeah, maybe, I don't know it's possible, they do have different mentalities after all.

i would trade markov for a top 3 forward. The center we need.

We have plenty of d-depth. Sign Campbell and we are set.

Plenty of d depth..

Komisarek - first pairing defensive D
Hamrlik - first pairing "everything" D
Gorges - potential top 4 in the future
O'Byrne - raw rookie
Bouillon - doesn't hurt us

There is no guarantee Streit, Brisebois, and especially Campbell will sign with us....so trade Markov and play with 5 d. Valentenko is good but he's not even in the NHL yet, and our prospects aren't going to pan out for another 1 to 3 years minimum

...Trade Markov

We have to consider that in the international rules, teams can dress up to 8 defencemen. Therefore, his ice time was greatly reduced. Just a quick glimpse in the game statistics, he was used between 15 and 17 minutes, pretty far from the 24-27 minutes he had in Montreal, more or less 10 minutes less of time on the ice.

And during the powerplays, Bykov usually sent Korneyev on the first wave and Markov on the second waves.

Markov has a NTC doesn't he??? He also clearly stated in interviews he wants to play here or in his home country. He became a canadian citizen because he loves MTL and wants to stay. He is a shy guy that doesn't want to play anywhere else in the NHL. He doesn't want to learn a new system, meet new players and live in another city. It is MTL or RSL. Andrei is also really grateful we gave him the chance to play and time to get at the level he is now. He is a top 10 d-man in this league easily and that is more valuable than a equal forward. His contract is pretty good too...If Timonen got 6.3, imagine Andrei... he could have fetched 7 pretty easily on the free agent market.

This team NEEDS Markov more than we need forwards. Some people should think before posting.

We should replace Markov with Karl Dykhuis!
