I almost picked up MCCollum at 52. But Arniel was pretty good value there as well, and my fellow Devils mod convinced me the Devs needed centers more than goalies.

Where Filatov falls is going to be one of the biggest question marks on draft day.

Fair enough. I can't wait until next week, either way. I think this is going to be an entertaining draft/off-season for sure.

Interesting.

I'll eat my hat if Doughty isn't the first d-man off the board, too.

Nice job, overall (hope I don't seem overly critical).
I'd be willing to bet Bogosian goes as the #1 D man

Minnesota's draft is mediocre. I don't think they would take another Russian prospect since the last one went home (Voloshenko) and their first ever went home. And they need defensemen in the 1st round. Ness maybe?

TOO much of a risk at #20...I'll take him in round two, though.

If the first round turns out anything like this, I really like Columbus' and Buffalo's choices...

Columbus - Hodgson and Teubert
Buffalo - Sbisa and Ness

Tedenby at 16th also looks like it can happen.

I don't see Buffalo taking D with there first 2 picks especially with 13. First of all there last 2 1st rd picks were D (Persson, Brennan{actually 1st pick in 2nd round but was there first pick}). I think that most of the top F will be gone by 26 but that this is a very deep D draft and you can get guys like Robak or Ness at 26.

ISS Mock draft has us picking him at #20 also. They are extremely high on him.

Now I don't feel that bad for taking him..

Well it looks like the draft order should be Florida at 31 and Nashville at 40....If I had been selecting at 40, I probably would have taken Chet Pickard or David Toews.

I think Cuma at 31 would be an excellent selection for any team.

I'm praying the ducks can grab Wahl in the 2nd round, so cal kid, ducks fan and a good hockey player.

Boychuk and Wahl would be gold as far as i'm concerned.

Nor do I, but that's how the picks fell out.

Didn't say I don't like him as a player...I just think it's too much of a risk in round one...give me a repeat of the 2006 draft - offensive-minded D-man from the OHL...skilled Russian forward with 1st round talent who falls to us in round two.

A developed Kyle Beach in the Canucks lineup would totally give the team character and toughness. Just what we need. Beach and Bieksa, scrappers.

I'd say Minnesota goes after Sauve, Robak or Jake Gardiner. Three very good defenseman that play Minnesota style hockey.

As a group we got 24 of 30 selections in the first round. We had Petrov, Ness, Deschamps, Dalpe, Sauve, and Robak in the first instead of Pickard, Cuma, Tikhonov, Leveille, McCollum, and Gardiner.

We had 2 perfect picks (right player to right team in correct spot): Stamkos to Tampa and Boedker to Phoenix.

We had 2 almost perfect (right player to right team but in a different spot due to trades): Wilson to Nashville and Gustafsson to Washington.

We also had Grachev slipping out of the first two rounds, even though he was projected, often, to Washington at 23, and he obviously did fall.

We also had a second rounder right for both team and position with Luke Adam and the Sabres at 44....

Nice, sorry I got lazy and stopped looking after the first round.

You did better than me. I missed completely on the Devils picks. I had them taking Eberle - he was on the board and then they traded down (and down) to take Tedenby. Even if Tedenby had been on available in our mock he wasn't even on my radar for a Devils pick. Then I had them taking Arniel and they (and everyone else) passed on him repeatedly and took Burlon and Cormier. I did at least consider taking Burlon with the second rounder, but that was as close as I got. Just goes to show the Devils really do draft BPA - based on their needs I was expecting centers or goalies, not wingers and defensemen.
