Brooks Orpik: Should we go after him?

Brooks Orpik, imagine if we got this guy how scary our D would be? having Brooks Orpik and Mike Komisarek on the same line...and think having both of them in the playoffs

As much as I want Brooksy to have my babies, pairing him with Komisarek would not make our D that much better than it is.

That's alright. I'd rather not have a neck-breaker ex-Penguin on my team.

Even though he had a good playoffs I'm not exactly sure he's quite as good on a season-long basis

I'd rather just let Valentenko play. At least he has more upside and can be just as mean.

Yeah exactly, and he won't be asking for like $4-5 million like Orpik is rumored to be asking for.

he can always go to Philly. Orpik and Hatcher can demolish their teammates.

As a defensive D-man with a mean streak, Valentenko is certainly my choice, head & shoulder above a guy who is going to be well overpaid!!!

We need puck movers. Orpik is only average defensively anyway because of his gaffes. Great hitter though. And mean. We have Komi playing that role though, with O'B.

Pittsburgh should try and keep him. Gonchar, Orpik, Letang, Scuderi, Gill... whoever the other guy is... Their bottom 3 is terrrible:S

Orpik's a valuable player, I'd take him on my team if the price isn't crazy. Markov-Komisarek, Hamr-Orpik, Boullion-Gorges, O'Byrne. It's a nasty lineup for opponents to deal with.

I think we have the hitting part covered. A rock solid D guy for PK and defensive play would be the sort of guy I'd like to get. Maybe even some scoring touch.

I'll sure take him but it's not like Pens will let him get away.

I think O'byrne can develop into a similar player to Orpik with better puck movement and mobility. So my answer is no.

komi-markov
hamrlik-o'byrne
gorges-bouillon

With guys like valentenko, and mcdonaugh in the system... and maybe emelin coming over from russia, I dont think that we need to lock up another d-man from the open market

komi will be signed long term, markov has 4 more years, hammer has 4 more year, o'byrne had a good rookie season and needs to be seen full time, gorges seems like a stephane robidas type who will prolly be a part of this D core for years to come.

Basically, you bite the bullet on Bouillon, and once his contract expires, you should have multiple candidates WITHIN the system ready to take that spot.

No doubt.

He and Malone are the two ''coveted'' UFAs we should avoid like the plague. People saw them night in, night out this post-season and as a result they are going to get horribly overpaid by someone this summer.

Don't get me wrong, they are not bad players, but really they are ''complimentary'' parts. You want to pay 3-4 M per year for that?

With the D in the system already, we don't need to spend that money elsewhere to bring in a D. A strong bid on Hossa would be nice and that 3-5 mil that Orpik expects will look better in Hos' salary!

I don't think we should go after him either, but just for fun, imagine how bruising our lineup would be if we dressed these 6 D-men:

Markov-Komisarek
Hamrlik-Orpik
Bouillion-O'Byrne

...anyone of them could knock you the **** out!

I,m not sure i would welcome an Orpik addition but you guys are way overrating Valentenko for now, Orpik was a 1st round pick and ended up being the top shutdown defensmen (please don't talk to me about Gill) on the runner-up stanley cup team
