Lanny McDonald receives honourary doctorate from University of Calgary
CALGARY - When Lanny McDonald was first drafted to the NHL in 1973, his father, a man of few words, gave him two pieces of advice.
"When you sign your name, sign it so people can read it," McDonald recalled his father saying. "You should be very proud of who you are. "And when your playing days are over, make sure that they remember you not only as a hockey player, but for the man that you are."
On Tuesday, hockey legend Lanny McDonald became Dr. McDonald when he received an honourary doctorate from the University of Calgary.
