Roszival has Hip Surgery

Quote:
New York, NY (Sports Network) - New York Rangers defenseman Michal Rozsival will undergo surgery to repair a labral tear in his left hip, according to the team's web site.

Rozsival is expected to make a full recovery in four to six weeks.

The 29-year-old defenseman from the Czech Republic had 13 goals and 38 points in 80 games last season. He also had one goal and six points in 10 playoff games.

What does this mean? He re-signs for less money?

those are the big question's now b/c he had such a letdown of a season after what happened last year. now there might be a little bit of a reason behind it.

I can see the "Let's give Rozy another chance, he was playing injured" posts already.

Breaking news: The Rangers just announced that Michal Rozsival will undergo hip surgery to repair a tear. The injury may explain the drop-off in his play late in the season. What impact it has on his free agency is not yet clear -- it could reduce his asking price, making his return to the Rangers more likely, or it could scare teams away, including the Rangers.

Now that I'll bite on. Rozsival on the 2nd pairing at 3-3.75 mil is something I could live with. Actually, I think I'd be quite happy with that. He's a very good #3/4, but a medicore #1 or #2, IMO.

Staal - UFA/trade
Backman - Rozsival
Tyutin - Girardi
Potter

That's a pretty good defensive corps there, although it doesn't leave you too much room to pay for the UFA, probably about 4-4.5 mil max.

what if we get melichar and put rozsival and melichar together. they did play as a pair in pittsburgh and melichar is an upgrade over malik. no way i want backman and rozsival as a pair.

the thing is that rozsival, if brought back would play top pairing.....he has been the teams #1 defenseman for 3 years now and anyone who thinks renney will all of a sudden put him in the second pairing without getting someone like redden to play in place of him hasnt watched renney(and in no way am i supporting that decision).......my new ideal defense

staal-redden(6.5)
girardi-rozsival(4)
melichar-tyutin
potter

i know that defense is a bit more expensive then last year but it is much better....but anything over 4 for rozsival is too much

hmm
id rather see mara resigned before rozsival, but that is just me, rozsival is good but mara takes the body and sticks up for our team and goalie. rozsival is better offensively but does take lazy penaltes at the wrong time.

Well I think there are certainly better options than Backman, Mara for example. I just don't see us dealing away a player that we acquired at this years trade deadline unless someone comes right out and asks for him.

There are a lot of plays I'd like to do, but it's hard to say they're feasible.

hmmm.. why wait this long?

If it was that bad, wouldnt it have been out in the open during the season/playoffs?

If that was the case wouldnt the want him to get surgery a few weeks after the season?

Why now?

2nd & 3rd opinions? Waiting for the swelling to go down? Trying rehab first? Apparently some of the beat reporters knew (Brooks mentioned it on Sunday in a way that suggested it was common knowledge).

i dont want this piece of **** on this team next year.

Our defense even though played a good system...this guy gave me headaches, he will cost too much for my liking.

Mara > Rozy

Mara > Rozy
agree at least mara plays a physical game. i just wish hed fight a bit more. at least mara has some snarl to his game. mara must be resigned over turnoverzsival but if turnoverzsival is the best option then we r in bad shape.

I say now definently let him go, what if this injury lingers and bothers him next season.. to me it is to risky and we need to sign another defensemen.

I say resign him for a 1 yr deal. He'll be motivated to come back play well and cash in on a big contract. Also that will leave a spot open for a youngin next year. Also we won't be tied down w/ expensive long term deals, ala Orpik, Redden, Campbell etc.

Than sign Liles.

Staal-Rosy
Girardi-Tyutin
BAckman-liles

Potter or pock as the 7.

Than the year after you have to sign 2 or 1 (maybe even none) depending on Potter, Sangs, and Sauers development.

I highly doubt the Rangers sign Liles to play on the 3rd pairing with Backman.

why? how is Mara better than Rozy. you do remember that at one time this year everybody wanted Mara traded and that Rozy was one of the top scoring dmen. Rozy is by FAR a better dman than Mara.

and again Mara will probably want a multi year deal... I don't want mara back for anything over a year.... if that.
