TSN: Offseason Game Plan: Rangers

Wow, right off the bat they screw up.

After reaching the second round for the first time in more than a decade, the Rangers enter the summer with a substantial to-do list.
That's surprising.

I guess they forgot they swept Atlanta last year.

He goes on to talk about how they aren't the "same old Rangers" - some serious reporting here... I guess its going to take 20 years for that stigma to end, when it's obvious they turned the corner 3 seasons ago. Sounds exactly like last offseason's summation of the team.

I wouldnt normally drop a thread from a Canadian media outlet, but i was shocked when I read that first line. Thats a huge mistake.

You could lock or move this, just wanted to point out another inept dribbling.

I just shot Scott Cullen a nasty email, and he wrote back saying "foolish oversight on my part". The article has been corrected.

Why is it even "the second time in the past decade"

An unbiased view might read : "the second time in the past two years"

Another Rangers hater. Always quick to make a point, no matter what the organization does. when ever you hear of over paying for a guy, you can count on a comment having to do with the Rangers.

The comment on the free agent spending:

"Free agency has been a big part of the Rangers' history. Back in the days before the salary cap, the Rangers were one of those teams that used to spend big money to get the free agents they wanted.

Then, it took a couple of seasons to reel in the spending and then, last summer, the Rangers were back in spending mode to get Scott Gomez and Chris Drury."

Say you don't like the way they manage the cap if thatís what you mean...but this sounds like Smith-era rants about how we are ruining the league with the FA spending.

It's not like the NYR don't have to operate under the cap like everyone else.

Yet another reason why Hockey is not taken seriously.

I like the hockey publications, but compared to the other sports, these writers look like hacks and often are. They get to write about hockey for a living, but I can find dozens of posters on HF that are more intresting and more indepth than anything i've EVER read in THN.

the problem is, the NFL and NBA are popular enough so that the major websites can have a dedicated reporter for that team.
A Canadian hockey site, albeit basically the unofficial official NHL site, will not have a reporter dedicated to watching each individual team.

can they afford it? sure. do their readers, mostly canadians, care? Not many will.

His "foolish oversight" shows just how much he knows about the Rangers. Don't take this article seriously, he clearly doesn't know what he's talking about.

It's not even a game plan, just a rundown of the Rangers free agent situation and player roles.

But it is an unfair knock on the Rangers at this point.

We don't overpay for anyone anymore then everyone else post-lockout.

Look at some of the deals that players around the league have gotten recently.

Sure the Gomez and Drury deals are ridiculous as far as price (not length) but every other team is overpaying for players, too.
