NHL Awards

The NHL awards are about to start on VS at 7:00. What kind of miracle would Henrik need to take home the Vezina?

For Nabby and Marty to respectfully decline the award.

After last year's debacle with the awards ceremony, you'd think they'd get it right this time. But no, I'm watching some crappy British/Canadian drama. Woo. VS rules.

Bet it's a pain in the ass for Henrik to be there when he knows he's got no chance. Ah well, gotta do what you gotta do, hehe

Nabokov really deserved it. Brodeur was very inconsistant this season.

Really is a shame to see Nabby not get the Vezina. What can you do, though? Can't complain about it too much. Brodeur did have a very solid season in front of a terrible team.

devil fan here...not wanting any trouble haha anyways, i do agree with you. i think this is the reason why Marty got the advantage. If the devils even had a team close to the skill of San Jose then nabby would have won, but unfortunately we didnt have a very good team at all. in fact we would probably be a lottery team if it weren't for him.

Which is why I'm not too upset about it. I still do feel that Nabokov had the better year and did deserve it, but he also was on a stronger team with that year.

But, granted, I think that San Jose's defense is mediocre at best.

dunno why everyone is so shocked, it was a toss up between the 2. San Jose probably had a better team in front of Nabby, and Brodeur was good all season. Couldn't go wrong with either winning it, Hank definitely didn't deserve to get a vote...

Happy for Boudreu and the Caps. They really turned it around this season. Has anyone ever won as much hardware as AO has this season?

On another note, Nicklas Lidstrom... 6 of the last 7 Norris Trophies. Something only two other defenders have done (Orr, 8 consecutive [ridiculous], and Harvey, 7 of 8).

That's unbelievable, definitely one of the top-3 defenders of all time.

It's a shame to think the Rangers could have had him, but they had to draft Rob Zamuner instead, who was never anything more than a 3rd liner that the Rangers let go in the expansion draft of 92.

Gotta love hindsight and the old scouting staff.

Oh please.

While there are many decisions this organization has made that can be questioned (to be polite), not taking Lidstöm is way down on the list, if it even shows up at all.

Can you vote for your own players for the Vezina? Hank got third because somebody gave him a first place vote, I wonder if it was Sather? The only other guys on the team who had any votes were Dubie who was 10th in Calder voting and had a 2nd place vote and Dawes and Staal tied for 12th for Calder with 2 5th place votes each...

Just wait, with Pittsburgh it will get even worse when they re-sign Malkin, and Hossa. It'll be funny, 8 to Hossa, 8.7 to Sid and 8 to Malkin. Tampa round 3. Screw the Penguins.

and fleury probably wont take less than 5.5 4 players, 30 million dollars. that leaves 21 million to fill in the other 17-19 players you need....ie, youll have most of your players being kids, or role players who arent worth more than 1-2 million with ZERO room to sign Whitney, Staal, Malone, etc, etc, etc

I don't see how it's much different than where we are. Their top 3 will be making 25MM or so, while our top 3 will be at almost 23MM...and while they will actually be spending more, they have better value. Bottom line is both teams better hope the cap keeps rising.
