The topic of this thread is "Hossa possibly going to Montreal" - NOT whether Eklund has credibility or not, who he is, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.
Any further posts that are off-topic will be infracted and the poster banned from the thread. If you don't like Eklund, ban yourself from the thread - do not come into the thread and ***** and complain about him.
Didn't Ek pretty much say Hossa to Montreal was a done deal at the deadline, only for Pitts to sweep in and snag him? Oh Eklund, why do people listen to you?
Hossa to Montreal was a done deal, or at least it was the best deal on the table until Pitt called Waddell with their increased final offer with five minutes left to go (Armstrong and Waddell have both said it was with five minutes left).
Sorry Ek wasn't in the Thrasher's hotel suite with five minutes left.
Where does the original poster get that Eklund calls it "very likely"? I see no such quote at the hockeybuzz site. Aren't posters of rumors required to provide sources? I think that this is a perfect instance where mods need to step in. If the poster is making it up, then it amounts to a smear, since people will hold it against Eklund even if he never said such a thing.

You are right , here is what Eklund said about Hossa ;
" A source jokingly wrote me "Hossa to Montreal (e5)" last night. Following up on that he told me that it was his firm belief that Montreal and Hossa will be a pair a few weeks from now."
Hossa has said he wants to play for a contender and would take less money to win a Stanley Cup, anywhere he goes he will be the center of attention as he is an elite player...
The best he'd do in Pittsburgh would be 3rd or 4th most popular...there's a lot to like in Pittsburgh for Hossa. A hockey city that isn't too huge and where there are other players taking the bulk of the attention away, but he's still going to get noticed. Recognition with some privacy.

If memory serves me right, Boston REALLY wanted Hossa at the deadline and were willing to throw Kessel into the deal. However, I don't think the Bruins are the right fit for Hossa. He seems (to me) to have a thing with being the #2 guy. If he were to go to Boston, they would probably want him to be their top gun. Also, i don't remember him playing much with Savard, wonder how well they got along. His defensive prowess would deffinately fit into Juliens system. Any bruins fans have an opinion on where Hossa would fit on your roster?
I could be wrong, but I seem to remember it a little differently, Atlanta wanted Kessel and the B's wouldn't do it.
As far as where Hossa would fit in, he could be either Savard's or Bergeron's wing. I personally would love to see a line of Lucic-Bergeron-Hossa.
I really think as a player, he would be a fantastic fit. I just am not sure how well he would fit if he gets something like $8.5 million, somebody would have to go, probably at least Glen Murray.
Pittsburgh press is saying that the pens have made the offical offer...7 years, 45 million, no trade clause.... seems to good to be true for Pens fans, but I am keeping my fingers crossed
Has anybody even read the title? Its an opinion. Eck knows Montreal will throw big money to land Hossa (along with a couple others) so it improves the odds hes right.
Penguins offer Hossa 7 years - 45 mil. Look for it in tomorrows Pittsburgh papers.
That looks like a lowball offer...Hossa is going for at least 8 mill a year/longterm. I mean if Briere, Drury and Gomez can get that, Marian can do better.
Bob Rossi - Trib. Tomorrow's paper. Not on the internet yet.

Again, Hossa said he's not in it for the money.
And everyone knows NYR overpays players. Bobby Holik anyone?
The guy with the ugly suits on "The Spin" said Hossa to the Habs is pretty much a done deal. He's the guy that called Ron Wilson to the Leafs about a week before anyone else, so I'm guessing he just doesn't make stuff up.

Just last night the Pens announced that Hossa is their top priority. He is not leaving Pittsburgh.

Montreal can't even speak to hossa or his agent yet; how the hell would it be anywhere close to a done deal.
At this point the only team that would remotely make sense for is the penguins because they are the only ones allowed to speak to him!

Do you honestly think teams don't do things ahead of time even though they are not allowed to? How else do you explain someone signing minutes after they are allowed to start talking? If you are a player you are not going to make a decision like this without doing your research. If you do your research your going to talk to the organization...perhaps even look around. It happens even if the league wont admit it.
Having said that it is possible Hossa never talked to the Habs

The deals offered on July 1st ridiculously overpay so badly that there isn't much need for discussion?
Hossa will stay in Pittsburgh. The Pens are leaving Malone to test the market (hopefully with the Columbus draft pick) and elected for arbitration for Fleury so that Ray Shero can work on this for the next 2 weeks.
