I'm pretty excited. People wanted a culture change around here, well this is definitely that. I'm really anxious to see what he can do here.

I'm sure Campbell is already or will start soon spreading the word around what a great coach he is and talking him up.

"His teams are fun to watch," Kitchener Rangers chief operating officer Steve Bienkowski said. "They're aggressive teams, they skate well and they're fun to watch."

It'll be nice to see the Panthers returned to a tough, aggressive team! Sounds like a guy who will know how to use Belak and put him on the ice at the right times.

Another great quote:

Quote:
"What you see is what you get," Bienkowski said. "He's emotional. He's passionate. And he expects his players to work hard, just like he does."

Well he won't be shy with using Belak, that's for sure. I think the guy also meant in part that his team are offensively aggressive as well. From what I've seen, he lets his top guns loose and lets them do what they do best. When his team gets on a roll, he wants them to keep going after it.

I figured as much, but after seeing the Rangers in the Memorial Cup I've seen the team aggressive as a whole as well.

He also had Downie on is team as well as another enforcer-type, which is also where the Belak statement came from.

Oh, no doubt he likes his teams to be tough. I think he'll use guys like Campbell and Kilger if he reports more than Martin. Campbell especially, I'm thinking he's a DeBoer favorite since he won a Memorial Cup with Greg as a main cog.

What I like about it is, he gets the most out of his roster, so if we do bring up prospects, I have a feeling they will do well under him, so if JM is planning on bringing up prospects, I dont think they will be miss-used. I think Matthias will be great under a coach like him

I was thinking the same concerning Kilger if he reports. A line of him, Campbell, and Belak will be a solid checking line that should wreek come havoc.

Regarding the OT - I'll reserve judgement for now. I'm cautiously optimistic.
If he is in fact tough on everybody, Horton should really have a career year and maybe even become our leading scorer even if Olli is still on the team.

No problem. I actually found out about 1 hour 1/2 ago. We were watching a movie and when it ended, I put it on ESPN news. I saw something flash at the bottom screen and it had the Panthers logo, but I didn't get to read what it was before it changed. I ran to the laptop to find out. I thought hey, maybe we signed Bouw. Then I was thinking because of that rumor a few days ago that we traded Olli. I was so glad when I read we signed a our coach and Olli was still a Panther. He seems like he will become a great fit with our young team. I really expect JM to unload or buy out Stumpel now which is great. And I also think JM hired Deboer with Matthias making this team next year in mind.

I'm ecstatic. I've known about this guy for a while and he's a great coach. I was hoping the panthers interviewed him but I thought he was off to Ottawa until Hartsburg was hired yesterday. Great move, perfectly what we needed for this team.

I am indifferent as I know very little about him, but I'll give him a blank slate. Hopefully, he can motivate this team into the playoffs!

Corey Locke (5"9, 168 LBS)
* All Stats are OHL (Season and Playoffs - Whole Career)
GM: 229
G: 164
A: 209
P: 373

Justin Azevedo (5"8 180 LBS)
* All Stats are OHL (Season and Playoffs - Whole Career)
GM: 293
G: 124
A: 222
P: 346

I think Azzy is a slightly stronger skater. But I dont see much of a difference. I think Azevedo needs to work on his skating and if he can..look out cause he has a rocket of a shot.
I don't think Azevedo will make the NHL, but I would be willing to give him a shot atleast.

Wow. This is certainly shocking news for me to see at basically 1:30am since I wasn't on the web all day since the announcement. I have no idea who this guy is until now, but he seems to have a great track record in the OHL and I like to hear that he's known as a very aggressive mentor to his players who play a very closely defensive style, which IMO is basically what this teams needs.. I'm just really surprised that none of the previous names were chosen. Well hopefully this guy leads us to the playoffs asap

I have heard very little about DeBoer before this signing today. The signing sounds promising...but time will tell.

There was some question as to whether he would be able to pick his own staff. According to GR's blog, he will.
Quote:
- As far as assistant coaches go, JM says DeBoer will be able to name his own staff, but will talk to the current guys first. Since all three fellas (Guy Charron, Mike Kitchen and Pierre Groulx) are under contract for next season, wouldn't be surprised to see zero change there next season. Not that there needed to be, mind you.

Steve Spott, DeBoer's assistant in Kitcher and with the Canadian juniors in the past, could find his way south.

Excellent Column By the Herald's David Neal

For those that forget, Neal was the Herald's orginal Panther Beat Writer.

Loved it GP, and for once I love what you brought up to the table !

But I'd rather quote that one:

Quote:
And yes, this hiring was a big surprise. JM never once indicated this was the way he was going to go. Would not play poker against this guy. He never tipped his hand. Not once.
http://miamiherald.typepad.com/flapanthers/

Great job by George Richards the whole year ! The article also says that Weiss was fired up after hearing the news... I think we could see Jokinen traded and a Weiss captained team next year !
