Paitson Leaving

Don't know how many here know him but David Paitson of the Bluejackets has resigned. If not for him there may not be a Bluejackets. He was president and leader of the highly sucessful Columbus Chill that spured a rebirth of hockey in Columbus.

Somehow his leaving without a job to go to sounds fishy. I've know Dave ever sice he came here, and to leave abruptly sounds to me like he was forced out! Dunno though!!

Best of luck to Mr. Paitson. You're right, JBum, he deserves nearly as much credit for the Jackets being here as Mr. Mac and the rest of the team that worked with the NHL.

I remember going to a few Chill games when I was young... I forget, when did they pack up and leave? I'm trying to think how old I was....

has it been more then 15 years?

Maybe 10. I think they left after the 96-97 season, I remember not seeing live hockey for three or four years before the Jackets came. I want to say the NHL announced that Columbus was getting a team and then shortly after the ownership of the Chill said they were leaving after the season.

I'm pretty sure they left 1 year before the Blue jackets began playing in 2000 to help build the hype for the new team. That would have made it after the '98-'99 season.

My ticket stub from the final Chill game is dated April 4, 1999. (I was not 12.)

I think my last Chill game was 95 or 96 maybe 97. I was 10. I don't remember them too well, but I remember the crowd being loud and the building rocking at every game.

ah yes...I remember that team getting ran out of town for their playoff runs every year due to the circus being in town, or other schedule conflicts virtually every year that they made the playoffs, ie. "home" playoff games in Troy, or home playoff games @ the "Nutter Center"

If you are right, there's usually only one reason you get rid of your Director of Ticket Sales.

Paitson and Sharrock are/were both VPs. Sharrock is VP of PR. Not exactly sure who would have had rank on Paitson, outside of Mike Priest.

Thanks PCH you beat me to it. I accidentally gave Paitson a demotion. He was VP of Ticketing. He would have reported to Priest. He did a helluva job as GM of the Chill and, when given a quality product to sell at the NHL level, his team sold it. If Paitson was encouraged to leave (instead of leaving on his own) it's probably because he couldn't polish a turd (entertainment-wise).

Paitson did a great job with the Chill, and was part of the team that helped sell the NHL to the Columbus market during the crucial, formative years of the CBJ franchise. He deserves a lot of respect, and I wish him well.

I hope he wasn't forced out because, as has been mentioned above, ya can't blame the salesman when the product is crap. Well, OK, you can, I guess, but you shouldn't!
