Before NYI traded up they might've thought DeHaan would be available in the early 20s. It's all pretty much wild speculation at this point. Whoever they were I'm sure Ray has those GM's numbers on hand in case he sees some trade potential this week.
I liked Caron from what I saw from him. I would have liked him if he fell to 30, not so sure about if the Pens traded up to get him, when there was still a lot of good talent left.
Pens also were talking about trading back, but didn't because Despres was on the board, which I think is a vote of confidence in him.
Either the deal to trade back wasn't there, or was snatched up by the Wings. They probably wanted to grab Ferraro if they traded back, but wouldn't have been able to, so they got who they thought was BPA.
I thought Ferraro said he knew Pittsburgh wouldn't pick him? Made me think the Pens weren't real high on the guy. I like him, though.
5 or 6 spots would be 1 of these.
24 Marcus Johansson Sweden C
25 Jordan Caron Canada RW
26 Kyle Palmieri United States C/RW
27 Philippe Paradis Canada C
28 Dylan Olsen Canada D
29 Carter Ashton Canada RW
If they liked picks 27-29 it shouldn't have been that hard or costly to move up just 2 or 3 spots. It had to be 2 of Marcus Johansson, Jordan Caron or Kyle Palmieri that they liked a lot.
Given the Penguins propensity for 'Q' players I'd say either Caron or...Despres. I'm still shocked Despres fell all the way to 30 and I wouldn't have been surprised at all had the Penguins traded up to get him.
