He could come cheap and put up as many points as Feds... he still plays a mean and nasty game... his hands are still smooth and his skating is pretty good still... will be 34...
Watched him a lot last season and he was doing well, but hit a slump towards the end of the season...
Eh, Bertuzzi's been fighting injuries the last few seasons and he seems to prefer Western Canada. I'd reach out to him but nothing above one-year $2-2.15 M, too much risk of him missing significant time IMO.
I think we can almost certainly pencil Lovejoy and Jeffrey onto this roster.

-Lovejoy as the sixth or seventh defenseman at 1-1.2.
That would leave the Pens with about 3.87 left in cap space with a top six winger, backup goalie and another defenseman to sign.
-sign Curry for 0.6 per year over two years, and you're at about 3.27 remaining.

That would leave 1.02 (roughly) to spend on a forward. Could be Wallace, Bissonnette, Minard or even a cheap UFA from out of house.

That's not a terrible idea. I'm not sure he would want to come back here, though. I'm sure he thought he'd get a chance in the NHL last year and he never really got one. He came up and played on the 4th line. He's no grinder. MT just put him in position to fail basically since that isn't his game.

From what I remember him saying, he sounds very interested in sticking around here at least for this season. This seemed to be his first option, which is nice to see that he's willing to work hard and put in his time to try to get his chance.
I'd give Pesonen a second shot too. Even he's a bit soft(ish) player, but I think now that his wrist is probably fully recovered and he could shoot the puck with more strenght and with his vision and skills.. He would be a cheap option.

I believe a QO means an automatic 10% increase in pay. So the Pens will get him for at least .962 for 1 year unless he gets a better offer sheet from another team. Then the Pens would either have to match that offer or receive compensation in the form of a draft pick.
Yes, 10% raise because he made less than 660k last season. However as far as I know that QO is based on his last base salary, not his cap hit (which most likely included a signing bonus). Lovejoy earned $637,500 in 08-09 which would make the QO only $701,250.
So in the unlikely event that the Pens re-sign Fedo, and one of Caputi/Tangradi force Bylsma to keep them up in the NHL, what do you think will happen to Talbot (assuming LC or ET play on Malkin's wing)? Will he go back to the 4th line like last year? Seems almost like a slap in the face after the post season he had. But you gotta give the youngsters a good opportunity to succeed, and surely they have more offensive potential than Max.
On the flip side, paying 2 forth liners over $1 mil per year isn't very wise.
I'd actually like to try him with Crosby and Kunitz with Malkin, just because I think Malkin could use a guy like Kunitz who has a bit more offensive pop.
If Tangradi makes the team (which sounds like a fair possibility) I think it's likely he'd start on the third line. His size and physical game would allow him to do that

I'd put him on the second line and think it's very reasonable that he could pot 20-25 on Malkin's line.
I love the sentiment that if you put a player with Malkin or Sid their goals are going up by at least 10.
Talbot had 8 goals in the playoffs and didn't even play with Malkin until what, halfway through the Washington series? You don't think he could put up 20 goals over the course of an entire season when he put up nearly half that in the playoffs where scoring is down?
And weren't you the guy that thought we were toast after Game 5 and couldn't even fathom the idea that we could stretch the series to 7, let alone win the Cup?

Max Talbot is a solid hockey player but a 20 goal scorer he is not. Not with Malkin, not with Crosby, not with Gretzky. Although I suppose the potential is there. If any of our bottom 6 players (besides Staal) can score 20, I'd bet on Talbot.
I can see him scoring 15 goals, however. Unfortunately, that isn't good enough to play with Malkin.

Well over 100 players in the NHL this season scored 20 goals, so I have no idea why you think it takes a supreme goal scoring talent to do so. And yes, Talbot obviously brings more than goal scoring, but he could easily score 20 in a season considering he's scored 12 or more in the last 3 seasons playing mostly on the bottom two lines. With more ice time alongside best offensive center in the league? Far from a stretch.

I would be fine having Kennedy play on the second line instead of Talbot. I don't think it makes a big difference either way. They both play a similar game except Kennedy is a little bit better of a goalscorer.
Malkin-Talbot and Staal-Kennedy is the way it's going to start in camp. I don't think there is much debate about that. And if we get the right winger to complete the forward ranks, it'll look pretty good to me.
Talbot has always looked good when placed next to Geno. Sometimes, part of the solution is right under your nose but you don't see it.
Now granted, all of this depends on the last acquisition we make up front.
