If this happens, they'll have outdone themselves again.

As long as it's really cheap, I'd do it, which is the equivalent of saying not to do it at all.

I really don't think that anyone can match Yashin's Greed for money. I mean that's all that man cares about!!! Disgrace if he loves the game and the NHL he will come back.

If it's for a cheap contract, why not?

He had 50 points in 58 games for the Isles in 06-07, better than anyone on Long Island this season. His attitude is a huge deterrent though.

If anything, he'd come back to the NHL for less money than he makes in the RSL ... so really, that's not greed for money.

Yeah. Don't want to give someone who can score 50+ points Andy "can't hit the net" Hilbert's spot

While that is true, there are better options for you guys than Yashin, who will likely come cheaper and will come without the baggage, maybe andrew brunnette?

if he'd be down for 1.5-2.5 mil and use this as a comeback season (attitude wise) then why not give him a try especially when the isles offense is looking exactly the same as last years

As an Islander fan i say offer him 1M, if he doesn't accept then say goodbye because it would look like to much of a joke if we resign him for more. If he signs for considerabily less then what he could get elsewhere(russia) then it shows he has some commitment to right what he feels is wrong.

On that note i think he gets a bum wrap from alot of people about his attitude. Considering how much some players got last season in the free agent market, there is no reason somebody shouldn't have offered Yashin 3-3.5M for 1 year. He would have made a good fit for alot of teams looking for a second line center to add a little socring power to there team, on the Islanders though his contract was a huge problem because it took to much focus away from the team because we paid him so much and he wasn't playing up to the level of it.

I think a base salary of 1.5 would be perfect. This guy is capable of a comeback he has all the talent in the world just it is just his attitude that has been his problem. You fix the tude you've got a hell of a hockey player.

We Need a legit top 2 center and LW(is Brunette LW or RW?) but a 2nd line center a bigger priority(well first Line center in all reality but i am being realistic).

It's ridiculous that they're even considering it. They shouldn't have bought him out in the first place.. yea, he was overpaid, bad attitude and so on, but he probably still would have been their leading scorer if he stayed.

Not even saying this out of hate for the isles, but will they ever learn?

I believe Brunnette plays both, but from what i've heard he is primarily a Left Winger.

I don't think so. If they weren't considering it, they wouldn't have even started talking to Yashin and his agent. And hopefully we can get him back. Fact is that we need a center who actually has skill, and Yashin is the only one we can get right now without giving up any prospects/picks

not to mention its pretty safe to assume no other teams would take a chance on him

Honestly I would take Yashin right now. If he signed with the Panthers I'd be happy.

You can't deny this guys talent. He probably did a lot of adjusting in the Russian league. Maybe he matured a little bit.

I hope he comes back, I got a Yashin jersey just a few months before he left

but besides that, I never got on the Yashin anti bandwagon like so many other fans

It's a terrible move for publicity reasons. If he played for another team and they bought him out in a similar way sure i would give him a shot, but the team looks mickey mouse buying him out then resigning him at normal value.
