Marcel Dionne offers up some advice

"If this team gets off to another bad start, clean house!"

The Dionne stuff's about halfway through Short's article.

Weird...I had put in the link, but for whatever reason it came up blank. My apologies, it's there now.

That seems like a rather simple way to look at things. Because young team's have never come back from bad starts?

My favourite quote from that article is the one about The Puck.

One lesson his young family members should learn is this: Life can be painful when you know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

Who cares what Dionne thinks? What matters is how you finish the year. None of us want to sit through a terrible start, but if we make the playoffs, then its easily forgotten.

OT - Today's Sunshine girl is horrific.

Problem is that with a horrific start, its usually pretty hard to make the playoffs, no matter how good the finish. As demonstrated last year.

No argument there. But if this team gets blown up, it will be at the end of the year and not 30-40 games in.

Is this an entirely accurate assessment though:

I mean, their starts have hardly been consistently been "horrific":

Records for Oct/Nov

07/08: 11-14-1, 23 points, on pace for 72.5 points
06/07: 13-9-2, 28 points, on pace for 95.7 points
05/06: 14-11-1, 29 points, on pace for 91.5 points
03/04: 10-11-3, 23 points, on pace for 78.6 points
02/03: 11-8-1-4, 27 points, on pace for 92.3 points

In my opinion I see 1 good start, 2 average starts, and 2 below average starts. Nothing great, but nothing terribly bad either.

Not to mention, I'm pretty sure from 03/04 until 06/07, the Oilers were leading the division at Christmas...

Take another look and this is the exact type of comment that'll be made here sometime late in September after the Oilers have shown some promise in a few exhibition games.

I'm sure Marcel wasn't asked if he wanted a bottle of water and offered this rant instead of a yes or no answer. It was asked, he answered, and it's true.

Put out a poll and ask everyone whether they are excited about waiting another couple of seasons for this team to turn the corner.

But we can agree on one thing...that Sunshine Girl is a travesty.

Well, Pride Week is coming up. Maybe the Sun decided to put forward a liberal foot and include Nicholas, AKA Natasha on weekends?

Short never gave Oilers' management an inch and yet he didn't pile on against them either. That's quite an accomplishment considering what's out there today.
