Proposal: VAN-CBJ

Assuming NYI trades down like they are rumored to and the top 4 dmen in the draft (Doughty, Bogosian, Pietrangelo, Schenn) are drafted when its CBJ's turn on the podium would CBJ fans find this trade fair?

Van acquires:
#6 pick
#19 pick
3rd round pick

CBJ acquires:
Salo
#10 pick

CBJ gets the top four defensman they are looking for and still have a pick in the top 10, while the Nucks draft Filatov to boost their offense, and then hopefully draft Myers at 19 as a project to replace the hole left by Salo in three years.

Where's this top 4 defenseman you're referring to?

Is this a joke? Why are we throwing in our 2nd and 3rd round picks as well?

I was about to come in here and say, "done deal" without reading any posts just because I want ANY trade to go down between now and the end of Friday night.

Then I read your proposal.

What?

If you don't think Salo is a top-four defenceman, you need to put down the crack pipe and start watching some hockey games.

HIGHLY unlikely. Sure, the Canucks might take it, but Columbus is slaughtered. That's WAY too many picks imo. I think Columbus needs a top line centerman before they need a 3/4 defenseman.

Yikes. Would you like Howson's car, first-born? Deliver his first-born in his car and leave it?

That's one of the most lopsided proposals I have seen in a long time...wow...just wow. I knew Vansterdam was cool...but man...you gotta leave the cafe's be.

I wouldn't trade 2 1ST's, 2ND, 3RD for a top pairing d-man, unless his name was Phaneuf...let alone Salo...I wouldn't even trade 1 1ST rounder for him. Throw in the privlege of moving down 4 spots in the draft...now we have a deal.

because the Salo is worth more than a 1st round pick, and the 10th overall pick is worth more than just the 19th pick. Would the trade be better if the 3rd was taken out?

Sami Salo is a all-around top-4 defenseman at worst, and a top-pairing PP quarterback at best. Merely above average in everything, except for hockey sense (top-notch), his shot (absolute bullet) and durability (injury-prone).

OP's trade was overpayment for Salo and the #10, however, something like this would be fair market wise, especially since Salo is signed for 3 more years and 3.5 per.

To CBJ:

Salo, #10, #41

To VAN:

#6, #19, 4th round pick

Thanks. I needed that after how this evening has gone.

With the 10th pick, they could still potentially draft one of Beach, Hodgson, Wilson, or Boychuk.

That's too much by Vancouver. We're going to need Salo, especially with the death of Bourdon.

I beg to differ. A 34 year old defenseman is not worth the 6th overall pick. Especially for Columbus. Were not a defenseman away from contention and the 6th pick is very valuable this year.

If I'm trading both of our first round picks, a second, and a third for a defenseman it better be Phaneuf. If the Jackets were to just trade both their first round picks in a package it better be for a number one center or someone better than Salo.

This is a pretty mind boggling offer. It makes no sense for Columbus to do this.
