What are the chances Martin Havlat is traded out of Chicago? They nearly made the playoffs last year, have some more young guys coming in (Skille, Barker) and will probably be in search of a few veterans to anchor their blueline and 3rd and 4th lines.
GIven his history of injuries he can probably be had for cheap. Also, if i remember his contract although bad expires in a year (6 mill). Plus, if healthy, Havlat could be EXACTLY the type of player to fit in nicely on Gomez's wing. Discounting his first two seasons he's a point per game guy. He's quick, and plays two ways. Plus, if he can stay healthy, he's a young guy that could be around for a bunch of years providing gomez some consistency. Apparently he had surgery back in March and should be fully healthy come camp (Chicago Tribune).
Anyway... 2nd and prospect (someone a couple years away - Zaborsky, bourret...) for havlat and a 4th? - might even be able to get him for less as compensation for his salary (like devils unloading malakhov)
Frees up some money for Chicago to bring in a vet d-man (maybe rozi) and fills a major need for us for less than what Hossa or comparables would cost.
get him, it wouldnt cost much, we need wingers, and even though he is injury prone you cant expect him to get a major injury every single year. if he stays healthy, this could be like the jagr-carter trade. buy an underperforming superstar very very cheap, and he becomes the face of your franchise
i am a huge Havlat fan. but i'd pass. even if he holds up in the regular season (he won't) he will get killed in the playoffs. teams will target him and he will get KO'd. He missed almost the entire season and came back to be one of OTT best playoff scorers, then got hurt.
when he plays he is glorious to watch though.
it would take something besides bourret just because CHI is loaded with young RW depth.
