Hockey Central @ Noon Appearance

I hate to make another thread about myself, but I just got a last-minute request from Dobber and Sportsnet to appear on Hockey Central at Noon tomorrow, the TV simulcast of The Fan 590. Host Doug Farraway will have me on for about 10 minutes to discuss the Draft.

The show is 10 AM MST/12 PM ET.

It's a simulcast, so it's on both The Fan 590 and Rogers Sportsnet as a TV show.

Update: It looks like I'll be on more towards 12:20.

Update:

I didn't learn until late last night that the show wasn't going to be simulcast, but rather just on The Fan 590. That's not a bad thing- it's the biggest sports station in the biggest market in Canada- but I apologize to those who tuned in to Sportsnet and had to watch golf.

I never like hearing these things after I've done them, but I was really, really happy with what the interview. Doug Farraway is a great host, and I'd love to come back.

Some of things talked about:

-Doug spent a lot of time singing the praises of the Fantasy Prospects Guide; I didn't expect that! He said it's as in-depth as he's ever seen.

-Talked about Dobber and I's Top 40 prospects who've never played an NHL game; Stamkos and Filatov were my 1-2:

Stamkos- Every time Steve needed to have a big performance, he lived up to it. He's got winning in his blood and it's those guys that succeed at the next level. Eg. 11 goals in 9 playoff games.

Filatov- Has said everything short of he'll walk on coals to play in the NHL. Turned down $70K a month to stay in Russia, and that speaks to his character. Has out-performed Cherepanov in every major tourney they've played together in.

Cherepanov- May never be a 40-goal guy, but he'll be a consistent 20-25 goal player, and those are obviously very valuable.

Nikolai Kulemin- Plays a very un-Russian game in that he goes up and down the ice with the intent of going to the net for the goal- he doesn't waste time trying to dangle guys he doesn't need to. That mentality will speed up his transition to the NHL. Could be a top-sixer with seasoning.

Blake Wheeler- Some questioned his character because of his decision to opt for free agency. I think it's the sign of a smart kid; he's doing what's best for him. Brought up the Comrie clause fiasco that almost made him a free agent.

-Talk then switched more to the Draft itself. Doug asked if there are any major surprises in store in the top ten.

-Mentioned the Pitt/LA rumors about the #2 that were strong yesterday but seem to have died down.

-I think there will be at least one move into the top ten from a team that's not in it. Mentioned Brian Burke; Doug had said something about GMs throwing up smoke and mirrors, and Burke made a comment about not picking Filatov even at 12. I said Burke might be throwing up smoke, but it's more likely he's trying to out-position other teams said to be interested in Beach.

-Doug asked if Tyler Myers could be a big surprise. I said he definitely could- it's not often you get a 6'7 defender with decent skill, let alone one that can skate like the wind. I can easily see how a team might think he has franchise potential with some seasoning.

I think that was about it. I'll post a link to an archived MP3 when/if one becomes available.
